Nothing else will do...

Post by Bailes1992 »

I may be having £6000 to buy a car with off a family member and been told to start looking.

Looked at top spec Mondeos, top spec Focuses, Pug 207's, Pug 407's but nothing tickles my pickle...

All I want is a 406 :(

Am I insane?

I don't think their just going to give me the cash, they'll buy the car for me so having a lump of money to save isn't an option.

Nothing else will do, I want a 406.

I was going to say you could have mine for that, then I remembered it's actually worth more :|

I suppose if you go ahead and buy a 406 anyway you'll get it in the neck if it goes wrong

Anyway, doesn't top spec for you mean spending something like 6k a year just on insurance? :frown:

Well I was only paying an extra £100 a year over my Focus for my 1.9TD L which is bottom of the bottom really.
So I can't see it being much more than £300 extra a year for a nicer model?

Looking at this currently...
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... ?logcode=p

And thats the highest spec I'd be willing to go too.
It's got a massive amount of kit and when In a few years when I want something faster theres pleantly of scope for a little tunning too :)

So I'm looking for a HDi Rapier or an Executive.
My Uncles got a Rapier and it's just an Executive without the seats from what I can see :)

Well the way I see it is if I have a 2.1TD I can't run it on Veg oil, so I might aswell have a HDi which has better fuel economy?

yes i agree sam. as well as them being so much smoother to drive. not saying the XUD is ruff because it is a nice smooth drive but my mates hdi 90 is so much smoother .

quieter as well. my next 406 will be a HDi 110. nothing less than exec spec. would love an SE or S .

1 day , i say 1 day i will own one but not yet , love my XUD too much to sell it yet

Then either stick with the 1.9 version or swap the shitty Lucas Epic kit for a mechanical Bosch and you're golden.

The 2.2 petrol is a brilliant engine, you'd have a lot of fun with it Sam

Very economical too, for a petrol.
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.

I never did any long journeys in it but around town my 2.1 was just as economical as the HDi. Not sure what it would be like with a Bosh pump but you may as well be flexibubble.

Well the other option would be to get a 1.9TD Executive and chuck a 2.1TD in, that way I can keep all the ecu gubbins to go along side it. But I don't want to do that :P

Parts are getting cheaper and cheaper and now I have an apprentaship I feel I can afford to maintain a HDi, you can pick up a HP pump for under £100 these days. I remember when people were terrified of killing pumps cause they were so expensive.

And I really don't want another petrol
Actually if I could afford a V6 I would, but that would be the only Petrol I'd own

Nonononono, you want to get RID of the ecu, not go out of your way to keep the damn thing!

2.1, ditch the LUcas Epic and fit a fully mechanical Bosch. Better tuning & vegness. Win.
