The 508

Post by ToddM »

What do you guys think about it? I think it's an honorable successor to the 406, considering the 407 was nowhere near. In my opinion it's strong points are exactly the same as the 406 (par the 3.0 V6.. You will not be forgotten my friend):
Most importantly - Kicks German ass
Great diesel engines
Great styling
Great value for money
Low running costs
That special feeling you get for being different (or retarded like me) by not buying a 3 series or what all other cocks have done - an A4/Passat

Well said, Todd.

I have seen a couple of demonstrator cars on the commute, and they are an attractive car, without as much of a hint of basking shark or blobfish about them.

To get back into the fleets heart though, where the Passat and Insignia are kings, they need to make sure it is fairly reliable.
The 1.6HDi in the 407 may have burnt too many fleet managers fingers. Certainly, a large fleet I know of, had terrible issues with their initial 407s, and replaced them with late build Vectras

A good alternative to the usual Germans.

It's sad that Peugeot has hardly been making cars that you'd want, beautiful, great to drive and reliable like the 406 in the past.. what is it now 6-7 years? Cars that are set apart from the rest, ones with personality. You all know what I mean, don't you? They sure are making a great return - the RCZ and the 508 are brilliant in every single aspect. The 3/5008s are both rock solid, reliable and economical and actually are rivals in the mini SUV market. I'm glad Peugeot are on a roll here.. now all we need is a hot hatch with 205-like greatness.

My colleagues all reckon the RCZ is too expensive. I tend to agree - if they could put a more powerful (turbo petrol?) engine in it, and reduce the base price down a bit, they would have something that really competes with the Audi TT.

That said, I hate the front-end of the RCZ - they took the ugliest bit of the 308 and duplicated it verbatim ad nauseum on to the RCZ. The rest of the RCZ looks really good.

Now I wonder - the restyled 308 (which has the 508 nose) looks a lot better than the last edition. Will they facelift the RCZ? Or is still it too soon since the RCZ was launched?

Until they make a manual diesel estate with a real engine, you can poke it IMHO.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

what peugeot needs is a hot diesel hatchback, something to kick the ass of the golf thats where the sales matter.

The 3008/5008 look great and are a nice addition to the dull mpv market.

The 508 i seen the advertisment it looks good i have to say, but i prefer the c5, but heck the money still ends up at the psa group whatever you choose.

i read an old book of jeremy clarksons some time back in the mid 90s, and he really liked peugeot back then, he said they may not be the best built cars but someone deep in the bowels of peugeot really does understand how to make a car feel great to drive, thats what peugeot need to do again, and get pininfarina back.

HDi 163 (140hp) (2 litre) 6 speed manual. 9.6s 0--60. Tax band D (£95). Sounds good to me.

The other engines are that 1.6 Ford thing.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Playing on their car configuration website: you can only have it in white, black or blue, and only with a black cloth interior.

No, an engine. (Like Disco's, for example)

TBH last time I looked there were only two versions of 1.6 litre frustration generators.

Play around with the configurator a little more. With different spec levels come different options, guys. And don't diss the RCZ because of it's front end. Seen one in the rearview? You'd know what I mean  Of course, it's not the prettiest front end in the world but after all, if driven properly the only thing they'll ever see is that pretty little ass, right? (COPYRIGHTED, DISCO, COPYRIGHTED! :cheesy: ) And that front end makes much more sense on something with RCZ proportions..t the 308 has such a massive arse it's untrue. Our much loved French lion brand is coming back, ridicule them and try to demolish their reputation, car journalists, but better bring a fcking sledgehammer while you're at it!

ithink the 508 is a clone of other cars,

if you sort of squint you can see a bit of Audi in the middle part of the front end,
rear end side squint as a look of poxhall,

nice motor tho 8)

The Insignia looks a lot better on photographs than in the flesh and the 508 looks even better in the flesh than in photographs.. But as everything else it all depends on the trim levels :(
