All you need to give when filling in the forms is the long number which runs along the top of the tax disc. You can keep using your car, no problems.

the easy way is to take all the paperwork into your local dvla office and you can do it over the counter, but theres usually a long wait as they are always busy
they take your old tax disc and mot and give you new ones over the counter.

The car doesn't need to be off the road at all & it can all be done via post. First thing you do is send off the transfer form (or retention certificate) with the details of your vehicle filled in, including the serial number from the top of your tax disc, the V5 & MOT cert. Then a few days later you'll get an envelope containing a tax disc with the new reg on it & a certificate that you can hand in to get your new plates made up. There will also be an addresses envelope for you to send them your old tax disc back. Then, a few days after that, you get the MOT & V5 back with the new reg on it. Don't forget to inform your insurance though - they don't usually charge, but they still need to be told as soon as you start driving around with the new reg on it.

Iwill Await the seller of the plates to get in touch with us now ithink their based in ireland, hence why there cheap with the plates , :?

Strangely the plate ive got on the car now is worth more than the one im buying it dosent resemble nothing to me but they mark it up at £485  its only the last few numbers that make anything up and thats 5OBA :?

Don't get caught out like people I know doing a GB -> NI transfer. The GB plate was on certificate, so they had to pay the numberplate people to put it on a GB car then transfer it across.

For NI -> GB, presumably you'll need them to transfer the plate to an NI car, then transfer it across to GB.

im not paying dvla £98 tho to put the car back onto its original Yji irish plate tho and then go thru all the rigmeral of changing it over again it seems daft, but they say its already been replated once and thats the way it is, Bastids

I'm not sure.

'I' and 'Z' (the latter at least for the pre-2001 GB system) were reserved for the Irish plate system. I'm not sure if a ?DI plate ever existed?

Could have HDZ 406 or HJI 406 perhaps.

I bet those who registered a car in the "RCZ" series are now rubbing their hands and calling the likes of newreg for quotes. My old 406 was 'SCZ xxxx', just one letter out!

Speaking of numberplate formats, one of the things that cracks me up about American TV shows that decide to have a 'London' or 'England' episode is when they film it in an American film set.
US-style buildings, and they fill the street with EU-import cars with fake GB style plates, including the likes of 'AB66 CDE', 'A3135 BC' and other non-sensical travesties.
The cars themselves have small sized bootlid plate holders, so from the rear they have to mount the plate on the bumper. The likes of a Porsche Boxster the plate is just put on the front badly without a numberplate holder.
US-market style side repeaters and the occasional big-bumpered BMW or Volvo.
Old style taxis too that are mostly decommissioned in London.

143 or 144 in a numberplate and you will have a queue of lorry drivers looking it.

Would be surprised at the number of boy racer cars that have this very combination...

I remember on the late Gerry Ryan phonein show a nun giving off because the Garda (Irish police) had 3 6s on the phone number on their cars!

Has the actual "mark of the beast" not now been decyhpered as RFID tags? (as it was barcodes previously, and probably tattoos or piercings before that...)

No doubt someone would still buy it though! I regularly see a BMW with a number plate B16 CKK

People here are quite lucky with selling their original numberplates sometimes, I've seen PIA and AIB getting sold to an insurance company and bank respectively.
OIL for tankers. BIG for limos. BAZ, DAZ and GAZ for nicknames etc.
FIL 9245 on a Citroen BX, sold to the owner of a Porsche 924S.
