Hey guys, just wasn't sure and wanted to ask here before a potential purchase - would a 2.0 HDi 110 S have the longer ratio gearbox?
Many thanks! A quick reply would be appreciated!

Re: Gearboxes
Are the clutches different between the 90 and 110 then?

Thanks guys!
As far as I know the 90 is solid flywheel and the 110 is DMF, no? Thanks for the quick reply again, one more question though: Is it the same box as the 136 then? Also will it return better MPG than a 136, even if the 136 is decat+defap+remap?

Yes, same box - 1.9XUD / HDi 90 = BE3 or BE4 gearbox: 2.1XUD / HDi 110 / 136 = ML5 gearbox, (probably to do with torque capacity).one more question though: Is it the same box as the 136 then? Also will it return better MPG than a 136, even if the 136 is decat+defap+remap?
Even with decat/defap/remap a 2.2 will burn more fuel than a 110 - (you don't get owt for nowt)
I typically get about 44 mpg, but for a 'fair' comparison judge it against something of similar performance.....

Re: Gearboxes
the 406 could do with an extra gear i think that would improve the mpg a bit.
But the gearbox is one component of a car which i simply find unfathomable i understand how to put them into a car ok, but the internal workings its all mathematical witchcraft. It must take more work to design a gearbox than an engine.

Re: Gearboxes
No, not really - it was all done years back by trial and error. Things have probably changed slightly due to computer aided design but I'm sure PSA put a hell of a lot more work into designing the HDi than they did in upgrading the ML5 to ML6.

Re: Gearboxes
I have wondered about this a bit - would an ML6 be better? The higher top gear would be welcome, but the closer ratios may not suit everything. The few diesel 6-speeders I've driven need them because of the very narrow power band that small, high output engines tend to have. I like mine as it is. Bring back overdrive?

Well my uncle's done a transplant of an Insignia or a Vectra box in his old shape Zafira 2.2 and I gotta tell you, it goes like stink. I mean it has other various mods but the gearbox makes a massive difference - you can always be spot on where the torque is. You can still stick it in 5th then 6th and forget about it but you know what I mean

Re: Gearboxes
My 1.3 gearbox mated to the 1.6 gearbox feels the same as before, although it seems to make much better use of the power than the old 1.6 gearbox did.

Re: Gearboxes
I like the gear ratios of the gearbox in my 2.2 Coupe - it's just that it could do with an extra gear on the end so that I can cruise at 70 MPH with the engine running at (say) 1,800 RPM, not the 3,000 RPM it currently does at that speed in 5th.
It would improve fuel economy.
