M.o.t.s in ireland,

Post by lozz »

Question here for the Members from ireland,

Q: is there a internet site where you can check previous mots and history like we have here in England?
The Mot check draws a blank at anything past it last 2 mots,
the car originated from Ireland hence me asking if there is a Ireland based history check on mots internet based?
if so any one got a website link,

thanks inadvance

After some goo -gling.
it seems Mots are only Recorded in England /scotland /Wales,
so that was a waste of time, :(

Most probs why people from ireland are buying a car from England and Taking it back over, most probs theyd get more history on the car then :?

your most probably correct, the selection of 406s over here were a bit ropey when i was looking to get mine, the cars in england have no bad diesel, and they seem to be looked after better.

ithink its 50/50 mate,
The one ive got is from ireland and for a Vreg it puts some 03 regs to shame that only had 112k on the clock when igot it,
weve also got a Astra van purchased from ireland and thats a Y reg it looks almost brandnew and its got 43k on the clock,

for there ages the Mileage and condition is unbeleivable towards some over here ,

if youve got an old mot certificate, england based one with a Mot test station number on it,
you can pull up the cars Mot history, eg any Advisorys or Refusuals for isuing a mot cert.
ilike to check on these as you can sort of work out how much a car as been used mileage wise,
also if anything listed as an Advisory was flagged up the next year EG did they replace the item the tester advised be replaced etc.
idont think iwill be getting any of that for mine tho but isort of know its history, old man had it in ireland for pulling horse box and my mate owned it after that so iknow its not been thrashed, 8)

If your car has a [ABZ 1234] style plate, with a Z or I in the first 3 letters, it's from Northern Ireland.

NI MOTs are legal throughout the UK (and vice-versa with GB MOTs). They have to have an MOT disc displayed.

AFAIK there is no website to search history of MOTs, despite them being computerised for about 10 years. You just have to hope that the previous owner gives you all the certificates.

If your car has a [99-D-1234] style plate, with the narrow font and a white rear numberplate, it's from the Republic of Ireland.

They have NCTs instead of MOTs. These last for 2 years but aren't valid on importing to the UK. The whole car needs imported and new UK plates.
