As some of you will already know, Irace and sometimes Rescue Greyhounds,
some Greyhounds Make good loyal -pets, They dont Require much Exercise, just 2 x 20Min walks aday,
Some people will think there Expensive to feed because they look a bit Boney, thats wrong You can feed a Greyhound Healthly for under 90p aday,
some of the dogs itake in come in differnt sizes Ages from pups-6yrs Male/female some of them couid be well known Racers,
iTrain them to live with Cats, walk on the lead with children, and House train them,
Anyone interested on taking on a Greyhound please let me know thanks,

Re: Anyone looking for a Good loyal family pet?
i cant have one (althought i would really like one) as my circumstances dont allow.
i just wanted to say greyhounds and lurchers of which i have had a couple, are great pets. My jasper was very loyal. i so miss him! he was a rescue dog. he was a gypsy dog. we showed him to a greyhound rescuer and they said he looked like he had his teeth filed down, and we already knew he had buckle shapped scras and what can only be assumed were cigarette burn scars. never the less, he was so friendly once he was used to you. and boy, coujld he run! his turn of speed made people stop and watch him run.

I can certainly back up whats been said so far
Sighthounds make great pets, you get 20 minutes of pure mayhem twice a day with 12 hours of sleeping inbetween the bouts of exercise. There's none of the constant demands for attention you can get with other types of dog.
The only problem we have is curbing our Borzoi's chase instinct, so we only let him off the leash in an enclosed field. Once they lock onto chasing something - nothing else in the world exists. I might have to send our boy down to Lozz to get him weaned off chasing cats (or anything else that moves - birds are a particular favourite at the moment

Ours is a Borzoi, he's 3 years old.lozz wrote:How old is your greyhound catflem ?

As a breed the chase instinct in them is very strong, If he spots something running and can't chase it he literally trembles with excitement.
They're ranked 76th out of 80 breeds that were tested for intelligence. The problem being that the tests were designed to see how "obedient" the various breeds are....... Borzoi's don't give a monkeys about pleasing their owners, because as far as they're concerned the entire world revolves around them, so obedience isn't one of their strong points (hence why they're often thought of as being thick or untrainable).

If we shout before he hits his stride he'll break the chase off, but if he's gone any further than about 20 yards he's locked on and there's no chance of calling the chase off. Its not a serious problem for us as we live in a very rural coastal area which is surrounded by fields. But the bugger almost went over a cliff last week chasing a rabbit (he doesn't kill or injure anything by the way - its the chase and purely the chase).
We've had lurchers in the past, but this is our first Borzoi - The wife thinks the sun literally shines out of his backside

Neverheard of a Boizo,
Deffo alot of greyhound in them tho,
Do you have a cat or can you Borrow one?
if so ican tell you how too make him cat friendly,
it takes 2 -3weeks, around 20 mins training per day,
oh for anyone thinking poor Puss- cat gets fed to hound thats not so
Oh by the way your dog is still a pup at Heart so it will be a while before he Mellows out fully,
@ 5-6 yrs of age they become couch potatoes you have to shovel them off the sofa to get them to go for a walk,

Re: Anyone looking for a Good loyal family pet?
My mum has 2 dogs
1 is a cross breed Labrador / Retriever
The other is a cross breed Norfolk Terrier / Jack Russell
Both have different temperaments. The Labrador is a big docile thing and she's about 8 now. The terrier is a lot more playful though he is only about a year and a half old.
Both are very friendly temperaments, although they will bark at anything passing outside.
