insurance,
Right er, another insurance Question, (Yawns,)
as some of you will experince the insurance on the 406 is a joke price wise,
ive tried the low, mileage deal that dont Quite work out well as your sat looking at the car most of the time saving miles,
hence wasting tax too, feking joke realy,
anyone know of any good loopholes on how to get premiums lower,?

Re: insurance,
Add your mum or wife to the policy, & I read once that when giving a value, knock it by £5 like cars for sale e.g. on a £1000 car, value at £995.
Apart from that there's only limited mileage or higher excess.

Re: insurance,
It's less for me to insure a late (05 to 07) MK3 Mondeo Ghia X TDCi (130bhp) than to insure a 52 plate 406 Executive HDi 110??
By £300!!!!!!!!

Re: insurance,
Yup your right sam,
the mondingos are cheap to insure,
id prefare the 406s towards one tho,
ithink if ihad another Mondingo it wouid have to be a petrol,
only thing ican see why there cheaper to insure than a 406 is its Strength, the Mondingo can take some impact Rear End,
Much stronger than a 406 in a collision, .
other than that, the Mondingo Looses its value Rapidly, there turning into a throw away car yet again as far as ican see,
seen 03 regs going for £500 thats pretty shocking,

Re: insurance,
But great for us looking to buy ;)
Spend £1000 on a Mondeo, you can get a lovely Ghia X TDDi 51-52 plate for that with ~100k with service history.
Keep it 3-4 years and sell it for £700 ?
Overall parts are cheaper than a 406, insurance is much much cheaper and they don't rust like D8's do!
But I still can't help but want another D8

I think if I go for one I'l stick to the TDDi, and if the pump fails I'l stick a bloody fully mechanical lucas on there!

Re: insurance,
Thing is, there are many things which come into play when calculating the excess or premium on a car - besides as to where you live, male/female, age and driving history.
I don't know what parts and panels are like to source in the UK - but if they are expensive to put back together, with a low initial agreed or market value on the car...you do the sums!
Shame really, because there is such an endemic problem in the UK with people not forking out for insurance - when the root cause the high prices which people can't afford - yet they need to get to work!

ive been on to my insurers there no way they can tweek the policy to make the premiums lower,
theyve even stated it will be Going up on Renewal, Had a Row with them over this as what the feck is the use of no claims bonuses if theyre banging up the price ive got 6 yrs no claims bonus and paying daft money, i couid insure a impreza cheaper than the 406,
Well ive decided enough is enough my 406 is going on the Auto trader, just spent £500 on it in Repairs wondering why ibotherd now,

I may well be following suit - out of curiosity I just did a confused.com quote on mine.
£515!!!!!
Was bad enough paying £350. I paid less than that to insure a Cavalier GSi when I was 21!
Possibly worth noting that a Zafira 2.2 petrol came up at £430 while a DTi was £390 & both were valued at £1000 more than my 406 is. Strange that the 307 110 SW SE comes in at £380 though. However, if I was going for a 307, I'd probably go for the XSi as even the 110 comes with the bloody FAP. May as well have the extra grunt to go with the aggro.
Now I need to do some sums to see if it's worth bothering to keep mine to recoup the £1000 that's been spent in maintenance over the past 18mths. If prices don't go down in the next few months, mine could be going after the Summer. Insurance isn't due until January, but leading up to Christmas is not the best time to be selling a car.

My insurance will be £920 on Renewal rough estimate theyve given me,
and thats 3rd party fire and theft, still on low mileage Deal, so its up about £315
ive just had a Quote off swinton ithought they might be cheaper, £1,725
ive asked a friend of mine to put me on there Traders policy hes having a think about it,
other than that mines going on ebay or Auto trader for £500 or so , so ican Recoupe some of the money ive spent on it in Repairs

Re: insurance,
Your high price probably has a lot to do with where you live. Think Manchester & Liverpool are classed as high risk. My quotes were fully comp, but may see what TPF&T comes out at in a bit. Will probably still keep it & pay the extra. It's very rare for me to keep a car for a year, let alone the 18months I've had this one, but looking at it sensibly, it would be silly to waste £1000 worth of maintenance to save £100-150 a year on insurance until a couple of years have gone by. Especially when you consider that the same could need spending on whatever I replaced it with.
That said though, if anything more needs doing in terms of maintenance between now & Christmas, it could be the straw that broke the camel's back & she could be going bye, bye...
TPF&T quote just done - £390. Anybody know of any other 7 seat diesels that can be bought for under £3k with climate & electric windows all round with less than 100k? Failing that, I could always just get another Mondy & tell any visiting family to walk or get taxis... no forget that, I know who'd be paying for the taxis.

Re: insurance,
I don't understand why the 406 in particular is so expensive to insure. It's not a high-performance sports car, it's not a classic boy-racer car, it's not a luxury limo. It's a family car / repmobile, in the same class as the Ford Mondeo, Vauxhall Cavalier/Vectra/Insignia, or VW Passat.
Does anyone know how the insurance for the 406 compares with these other similar-class cars?
If it's more, then why might that be?
I suspect it's yet another case of insurers making sh*t up as they go along, because they're greedy bastards and there's no real rulebook for how much insurers can charge people for something they can go to jail for if they don't buy into it.
