Ratchet Spanners

Post by FarmerPug »

I tried a ratchet spanner out in a hardware shop the other day, the sort that has the packaging which also says try me, they seem like a good idea.
Has anyone got them, how strong are they, i seen this on ebay:

anyone heard of this brand?

they are quite good
but not very good on really tight stuff, sometimes you cant use them as the heads to big to fit in the space.
also some rachets work with about 2 degrees of movement some need about 20 degrees so check if you can.

id not use them for cracking the nut on its first turn, just the slow bit between that and getting them off thats where they seem like a good idea, and there is a 5degree movement between clicks should be ok

Problem is the bolt can slide through the head.
So as soon as theres enough room behind the bolt it will slip through and you will spend another 10 seconds trying to get it back in the ratchet. Pain in the arse, but they are good for when you can't get enough room for a tidy socket sat in there.

I've got some Halfords professional ratchet spanners in my socket set and they're pretty damn good. You can use these ones for cracking stuff off and also for tightening right up. I tend to use them more than standard spanners if I can.

Completely agree, Halfords pro stuff in general are pretty damn good, but their ratchet spanners are every bit as good as snap on. (Rumour has it that Halfords pro stuff is made by snap on, but I'm not sure how true it is.)

Ratchet spanners make my life easier for sure :D

at the moment i just use the teng socket set to crack them off :D Teng tools do sell ratchet spanners but they are a bit too pricey although teng stuff is top quality, bergen seems to be a reasonable brand, ive a set of their normal spanners and they are great.

ah id my mind set on ones with the open ended on one side ratchet the other.
actually i bought the bergen ones earlier in the week but accidentally it was the solid ones, so im sending them back and then ive the option to get ractchet ones. From these solid spanners bergen seems to be of reasonable enough quality.

They're really good with the lifetime guarantee aswell. If I ever break a socket or whatever, you just take it in and they swap it there and then with a new one. an't fault that for customer service! That said, it could just be because I go to the one I used to work at so I know the guys there...
