Urgent - Selling in 1 hour - advice

Post by tomcourtney »

If the buyer has no proof of ID and says he is a traveller with no fixed address would you take cash for your car?
I sold a Granada 10 yrs ago to someone I vaguely knew and had the police round no end of times as it was used in a robbery, they thought I was involved.
That's why I'm suspicious.

yes
as long as you have the full v5 and make sure you send your part off there will be no proplems.

Cheers, don't think the 'buyer' will turn up as he was supposed to call back by now.

Ive never asked a buyer for proof of ID.

Cash in hand, fill the address they give you in, hand keys over.

Never knowingly happened to me, but I know a few mates who wouldn't dream of selling a car to a traveller, especially with no fixed address

It's not so bad now with the V5 requiring some sort of an address, so at least if something occurs you can show that your name and address is no longer associated with the car from that date.

In the old days when the seller gave the buyer the green logbook to update themselves, my uncle sold an old Astra to some man. Quick sale, the guy didn't give it too much of a look over.

About 2 hours later, police at door, the car had been used in a robbery and was now burnt out
