One less McLaren F1 in the world

Post by highlander »

Looks like Rowan Atkinson has written off his McLaren F1
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-ca ... e-14414889

Seems he's OK (hurt his shoulder) but the car hit a lamp-post and then went on fire, apparently. No pics yet.

He thought he was driving a Sir Walter Rally....

Only after his appearance on TG to advertise his new film too.

Not a good advert for McLaren - he was probably their most famous owner.

He seems too sensible to have been giving it some welly or drunk or whatever so I'm waiting to hear what happened.

A bit of oil on the road, a damp patch after the summer rain, a blowout.

All can happen to even the most sensible driver, and in something like a McLaren F1 it's too tempting to give it some welly.

Could the first instance of a green, energy saving unlit lampost running out in front of someone.....

A Maclaren F1, (preferably with non-sequential 'box), at full chat on a circuit makes one of the world's nicest noises.

* perhaps he was doing the anti-theft thing & removing the steering wheel, but a bit prematurely? *

I was once overtaken by Tony Bliar's convoy as they were headed back to the G8 at Gleneagles.

And once by GW Bush's cavalcade who were going the wrong way down the M5 at Hazelbank.

So, why were you going the wrong way on the M5?

Shame about the McLaren. Nice cars them, thank God there was no Mercedes in that McLaren or it'd be a total piece of..

Meh, my dad overtook the Bulgarian prime minister's convoy ( 2xG Classe V12s Brabus and a W124 S class AMG cos they liked the ride.. nice way to spend tax money) in a rusty '92 Opel Kadett Estate in red just like this one

Image

But with a 2.0 turbo and a 6 speed under the bonnet. They were surprised to say the least
