Road tax

Post by Swampy »

Hello, new here, just bought a 406 HDi estate 90 bhp on a 2002 plate, how do I know the correct road tax band, DVLC is asking for £245 as an emmission of 196g/km yet Parkers guide etc show it as much lower, and cheaper to tax???

Help!

Amazingly enough, emissions are higher on a 90, but it definitely should cost that much - my 2.2's £175 IIRC
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

thats a bit of a shock.
is the wiki still going, things like insurance ratings, the cost of tax etc for the different variants of the 406 would be great on it.

Cheers for the posts guys, will ring the DVLC in the morning and check, although last years tax on it shows £235? seems bloody steep to me! Although there does seem to be lots of weird costs for similar motors.

Hmmmm, my problem seems to be that the Gov (DVLA) seems to think my car has higher emmissions than Peugeot? But I'll keep at it.

What do emissions have to do with anything anyway?

The world has always had temperature variations?

Was the end of the ice age caused by V8s?

Was the big freeze of 1811 caused by taxes on diesel engines being high?

No.

The real cause of concern is the dwindling finite resources of fossil fuels, which can be cured by ignoring the bloody environmentalists and building nuclear plants, and having widespread hot-swappable battery tech (as in "better place") for electric vehicles.

Ithink the Emisions thing is aload of bollox,
Eg, They got rid of coal fires and replaced them with Gasfires /central heating -theres more colds and viruses floating about now,

now they want everything running off the wind :?
wont be long before steam cars are back,

dosent Trees take, the carbon out of the air ? Plant more trees and put bigger smokiers engines in cars isay

your right the emissions thing is away up the wall.
you need a fireplace in your house, we have a lot of wood on the farm and burning it isnt doing much harm especially as the wood for the wood chip boiler is cut from a forest that is grown in a cycle.

Too many people, plain and simple!

And I'm with you on the woodbuner, almost looking forward to winter, and burning my free wood, f'ing gas company, with their inflated profits!

(Tax = even my owners book that came with the bloody car gives the emmissions as being the low rate!.... Bastards, everyones out to rip us off)
