Good choice mate,
the 306 is a Brilliant little car,
only downfall with them is the lack off boot space,
What you going for ? petrol or derv,
Watch out for the Red 306s there a bit prone for Fading paint, so dont go to buy one if its dark

Re: anyone into peugeot 306s?
i thought the boot space was fairly good on them.
i'm caught in two minds about petrol or derv - let me explain...
i will sell my 406 to down size - we rarely need the estate's size and being a 2.2 petrol, its quite economical but expensive to fill up and insure. i'm cutting my work hours in half to do child care so i wont be doing so many miles either, so the comfort of the 406 wont be missed so much. if i can get an economical petrol, i'd be happy with ot being petrol as derv is more expensive to buy. but then there is the veg oil issue. can derv 306's be run on veg oil?
can you get 3 kid's boosters on the back seat of a 306?
i am totally new to 306's. what engines are they? which are 'best'?

Re: anyone into peugeot 306s?
the diesel choices are
1.9 xud no turbo
1.9 xud + turbo to create the famous d turbo
2.0 hdi
the diesels are very economical, they make up for the difference in the price of diesel

Re: anyone into peugeot 306s?
Yes mate, you can get 3 kids booster seats in the back, plenty of room in them,
ithink it dosent matter, what you get in the 306 petrol or derv theyre both good,
My petrol one got me a good 40mpg round town, and the insurance was pennys, £170 fully comp,
tax was cheap too,
imiss the car tbh as it was cheap to keep on the Road, but a drunk driver Wrote it off,
if you buy one, word of warning mate, Never remove the spare wheel from under the car, it actualy stops the back end of the car going into the driver in the Event of a Rear end crash,
and always make sure the Radio is firmly bolted in as of where its placed in the dash, mine came out in the crash and cut my head open ,

Re: anyone into peugeot 306s?
remind me... the lower the insureance group, the cheaper the premium?
tell me about the tuning - which derv can the boost be turned up on? if it is up'ed, what can the power be tweaked to?

have alook on here mate: http://www.tdocuk.com/viewforum.php?f=34
some of the chaps on there have took 306s to the limits
also you will find some good info on there re:tuning them ,
if your going for a oil burner you might be best off getting a Xud one rather than the hdi.

Re: anyone into peugeot 306s?

Re: anyone into peugeot 306s?
Yup iagree,FarmerPug wrote:although the hdi can be remapped and its a tad quieter
but the parts for the xud seem to be alot cheaper and theres alot more of them floating about,
as there old skool engines,
ithink there a better engine to have in the 306 if you want one for tweeking,

Re: anyone into peugeot 306s?
The 306 XUD diesel can be run on veg, provided you ensure that it's a Bosch pump. A lot of them were fitted with Lucas, so unfortunately you have to go and eyeball the thing. I think early phase 1's are more likely to be Bosch. While the HDi can be remapped, the XUD has no such complications.....turn the boost and fueling up a little and you're good for at least 115bhp. No need for a laptop, the modifications can be done with a screwdriver
Main thing to worry about is the rear axle. Check that the wheels aren't leaning in, if they are this could indicate worn arm bearings. ~£450 for a reconditioned axle, or if you're very keen you can recondition them yourself, but it's a tough job (done it on the 405).
.....but as I always say if you have an older car that's still running well, better the devil you know....

Re: anyone into peugeot 306s?
If you stepping down from a 406 to a 306 then get a 2.0 HDi Meridian SE estate. You can pick them up for about £1500, very reliable, very frugal and has the most amount of kit you can have on a 306. Going from a 406 to a 306 is like jumping into a carboard box, get a Meridian SE and it will cushion the blow abit
