New 208

what do you think of the new 208, it looks very similar to the clio, but 211bhp 1.6 would be fantastic (although thats more than the v6 i dont know how reliable it could be)

That's a turbocharged 1.6, whereas the ES9 J4S V6 we all know and love is naturally aspirated. Both engines produce 211 HP. The V6 also weighs more than that 1.6 engine.

Without the turbo, that 1.6 is probably pushing about 160 - 180 HP.

The "successor to the 205 GTi" title will only really be apparent if they can really keep the weight down - like all modern hatchbacks, the 208 will weigh in excess of 1.5 tonnes (I was shocked at the weight of the VW Scirocco - 1.8 tonnes!). The original 205 GTi was a sub-1000kg featherweight, and had a hell of a power-to-weight ratio.

AE always use those headlines. "New 205 GTi!" "New Capri!" etc.

AE are the tabloid of the car journalism.

Purely speculative rendering, but it is a more attractive car than the 207.

More than 200bhp through the front wheels is a bit overkill though, should do a Renault V6 and make it RWD.

4WD would be better, I reckon, with 60% power to the rears and 40% to the front. Extra traction, making the car more usable in slippery conditions.

I would hate to be laughing at 208 GTi owners as they join the BMWs and Audis that couldn't get up Anderson Drive in Aberdeen (not a very steep hill) when it's been snowing

That there 208 is a Fiesta rip off if ever I've seen one.

S'not a bad thing though as small-Pug designs of late have been extremely ugly and seemingly aimed at no-one at all :?

Otherwise, I can't help thinking it's a lot of electronics that will be lucky to last ten years.

I dont think its too bad looking beter certainly than the 207 but too similar to the clio, but i suppose its the wheight thats the issue.

about the v6 would it offer more torque than a turbo 1.6? And if you turbo a v6 would 300bhp be possible?

Peugeot have tried this before with the 207 GTi which was a miserable failure. They used to be the master of hot hatches but have produced nothing worthwhile for a long time now, and I believe have publically stated that they are no longer interested in doing do. Such a shame. 200+ bhp is no problem for the modern FWD chassis provided it is properly engineered (i.e. not a Vauxhall VXR). Personally I'm waiting for the new Clio Williams

Looks great though! I sure hope it'll be another drivers car from Pug.. I'm sick of these wobbly, soft frogs they're building these years. Am I too optimistic to expect something nice to drive from Peugeot nowadays?

its all this "motion emotion" bullshit they used to be good when it was "the drive of your life" and then actually making cars that were good to drive

Citroen have been winning the WRC for years with Xsaras, C4s and now the DS3.

Yet people think of rally cars they think of Subarus and Mitsubishis.

Subaru Impreza is now a hatchback, and Mitsubishi are dropping the Evo.

Dunno what to think of it really. I like the dash layout but not so sure on the front end yet, might look better in the flesh. I think the rear quarter on the 3 door GTI looks like a Corsa VXR.
