Hello from newby

Post by martinez »

as i've got to post 2 items thought I'd start here. Had a 306 td estate last 5 years and never spent a penny on it, but it's now sadly the worse for wear and needs new rear axle and as I'm also the worse for wear i don't fancy doing it. So thought about a new car and something more comfortable, spotted the 406 2lt HDI on ebay and it was only up the road, with 106K on the clock it didn't look like it and it drove fine so after checking the service history which ran out in 2009 I bought it.
Been driving it since Tuesday now and am well impressed with comfort and all the extras like JBL ICE and AC. Took it up motorway yesterday and it goes well and I can actually hear the radio !
couple of issues, door lock played up so squirt of WD40 fixed that, key fobs dont work....mm, help ? I've tried the usual fixes, lighter socket dont work, tried fuse (is it the one under the dash, 23 I think ?)
apart from this, I'm happy although it's not as nippy as the old 306td, but hey ho, I'm getting old so will just have to accept that I can't chuck the thing around corners, but it does handle quite well

Hi & welcome to the club. 8)

406's are great mile munchers and they kinda grow on you.

Post some more details & maybe a pic or two?

We'll try & guide you through those niggles, but it really needs pretty exact model / age info for us to give you specific fuse no.s & the like.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Welcome

For the fob, make sure you have good batteries, and also check the fuses for the central locking system. On mine there were 2 seperate fuses, I don't know about the D9.

Think I need to turn the PM facility on, didn't know I'd had any responses.
The model, well it's 02 plate Rapier 2lt HDI 90 if that helps, as far as JBL goes just what it says in the handbook really, could be Amstrad for all I know but it sounds good apart from a wierd niggle that started Friday night. With radio on I get this sort of Machine gun sound coming through, it dissapeared today until I got to the area where it originally started and there it was again. Ok with the CD player, wierd or what, also the radio doesn't seem to keep itself tuned into stations very well and I get a lot of interference and loss o signal. Rest of car seems fine so far, will have to check out the fey fobs but I know there're a weak spot on Pugs. Seller told me that cambelt done at 84K, does that seem right ? but no proof, now reading 106K so would have gone by now I should have thought, will have a nosey in there soon when I get a chance. Overall the performance isn't great but the ride and handling is a lot better than expected and not bad on the fuel. What can I expect to get around town and on a run ? Will try and post some piccies when I get a chance, been a hectic weekend and first chance to log on since the other night
