After owning this car for 2 months I have done the following:-
Fitted BMC-CDA cold air induction kit, EGR pipe blanked, coupe strut brace, rear lower brace, knocked out the cat/dpf internals and applied the defap/180 remap to the ECU. I have a 306 HDi powerflex lower engine mount to go on and in the near future will be doing the brembo brake conversion.
I cant find alot of "bolt on" parts for the 406 so was wandering if there are any other bits and pieces from other Peugeots etc I can buy as an uprated addition? Eventually when funds permit I will be fitting some team dynamics 17s and an FK coilover kit but for now just looking for cheap ish modifications.
Any ideas?
Alex

Re: Modifying my 406
As far as extra performance goes, I haven't really done anything, but if you're just looking for budget bits, the non-smoker kit that replaced the ashtray on mine is worth the money. No more than £25 to buy new. JBL speakers & tweeters can be bought cheap from a breaker, but you need to solder a capacitor into the tweeters so that they don't blow. Himbigchief has a Laguna splitter for sale for £15 which is half what they go on Ebay for, or if you feel adventurous, you could tour the scrapyards for an alternative.
Apart from that, I can't think of much as my biggest mod was to upgrade the interior to the same spec as yours comes as standard.

Re: Modifying my 406
I have the non smoker kit fitted and Im not sure but think my car has the JBL fancy speakers and amp. I am after the exec parcel shelf but cant find any for the mk2 at the moment as I understand the mk1 doesnt fit.
There is a carbon fibre splitter specially made for the 406 which I will order as soon as the front end is out of the body shop.
I went to my local breakers and found several coupes in there but didnt see anything that was worth having. Any other bits off coupes which are worth looking into? I have heard he rear arb on the coupe is slightly thicker than the saloon?

Easy way to tell if you have JBLs is to pop the tweeters out. If the underneath is black plastic, they are the standard ones as the JBLs are silver & have JBL written on them. Tweeters just prise out with a screwdriver.

Did the EGR blanking improve anything?
Does it have drawbacks apart from the longer heat up time?

Re: Modifying my 406
I disconnected my EGR, left it hanging.
Didn't notice much different, but meant the muck wasn't being fired back in.
Cheap mods - spray the centre console silver?
Mudflaps?
The Laguna splitter.

Re: Modifying my 406
i paid £5 for the blanking plate on my 2.0 hdi and it didnt really make much of a difference to be brutally honest, and i plan to de blank it at the weekend with the weather getting colder i dont want to find out if it affects heat up time, a bottle of egr cleaner isnt too expensive either.OdinEidolon wrote:Did the EGR blanking improve anything?

Re: Modifying my 406
Blocking the EGR is supposed to have an adverse affect on cold running and it has on my car - takes longer before its running smoothly, so I dont boot it until the oil & engine temp are at optimum levels. The benefit of the engine no longer breathing its emissions outweigh that though. When I examined the EGR pipe and noticed the diameter of the pipe was mostly blocked with black sludge was quite horrified. I think really the next job to do is clean the inlet manifold out. - Not sure how big a job this is though.
