Just got a Section 59 for 'Overtaking'

Post by Bailes1992 »

Was driving about tonight and the car infront of me indicated to turn left and started to slow down. I indicated right to pull out and overtake the turning car as did my mate behind me.
I got pulled and issued with a section 59 because apparently I was racing, doing 30, in a 30!
Always stuck up for police officers in general but feel that some of them are indeed jobsworths.

sorry bailes,
but the police have a job to do, Do you know how hard it is for them to have to knock on someones door and inform a mother/father of a accident, ?

this is what they deal with and it makes them Grumpy with all people that speed and do daft things on the roads,
ive been there done it and have learnt the hard way after a few crashes ive learnt my lesson, luckily ive never hurt anyone, but icouid of,

is it Worth it for a few minutes of what seems fun, ?

a 5 year old boy was run over at the zebra crossing at the corner of my house the otherday he was inocently going to the shops for sweets, he is now fighting for his life, sorry but its making me grumpy abit.

Not a fine, no points.
If you get 2 section 59's in a year they take the car off you and crush it. Basically like a car asbo.

The police were possibly thinking about this scenario , car indicating to turn left
car waiting at junction to pull out sees's the indicator and pulls out , Bang straight
into the car that had decided to overtake indicating car before it had completed
its turn , sorry but thats a bad maneuver .

There was nothing wrong with the manouver though.
If another car pulled out of the junction it would have been their own silly fault for not looking.

Doesn't work like that sam ,Highway Code 167

DO NOT overtake where you might come into conflict with other road users. For example
•approaching or at a road junction on either side of the road

And over the course of time sam you will come across plenty of other drivers
whose own stupid fault it has been for not looking , usually when their car is
buried into the side of yours ....

I got pulled for overtaking near a junction a few years back, I was well within the speed limits (guy in front was doing 30 in a 60) and I could see the junction was perfectly clear, so was the road ahead (street view: http://g.co/maps/4vt6d )

Didn't stop the motorbike copper from pulling me over. Only gave me a talking to though, told me I should have known better then sent me on my way.

I know you shouldn't overtake at a junction, but when it was as clear as that one I can't imagine it being a problem.
