MOT checks

i had the car at the mechanics at the weekend as its getting the MOT test next week. it got a few things done.
- new left font droplink
- new droplink for somewhere in the back, is this a peugeot thing with droplinks i remember some getting done last year. although the car did seem to be a bit loose at the back and thats fixed
- new handbrake cable (4 clicks and it holds on a hill)
- coolant flush and new antifreeze
- two front indicator bulbs (orange coating peeled away)
- headlight alignement (were quite out from the time they were out)
and everything else got looked over no problems.
parts and labour £85, now for the test.

don't forget to budget for new droplinks in your mot cost...

droplinks must be something peugeots like to get through, they are not peugoet droplinks but europarts alternatives.

I would always recommend Motaquip for drop links and other bits! Readily available on ebay for peanuts, and they are very good quality, if not identical to OE (Motaquip is a PSA company).

I suspect the droplink trouble comes from non-pug parts not being up to the job for some reason. I mean, looking through the (masses of) service history on mine, there was no mention of drop links being changed, yet I've got through about 4 sets of non-OEM front links in the 2 years or so since I cut the factory-fitted ones off.

Perhaps the 406 puts considerably more load on the things than you'd find on any other car and they machined their drop links to cope, whereas the people copying the part just made them to "normal" (non-406) tolerances?
