Winter is nearly here!!

Post by gumby6371 »

I had a little reminder this morning of the change in the weather. Took a bend at 30mph, back end went onto some wet leaves causing a big twitch of the sphincta muscle!!!
It slid about 2 feet before the tyres gripped again and I fish tailed up the road narrowly avoiding a couple of parked cars

Time for winter driving mode me thinks!!!!

Time to witness one's MPG in decline too :(

I was thinking just yesterday whether to 'stock up' on some super-concentrate screen wash as I remember it running out everywhere last year through the long cold snap.

Stocked up on de-icer.

Dreading it, as this year we live on a housing development on a hill.

How does one drive an automatic in snow? Leave it in '2' ?

snap, I took the C5 this morning as im still waiting for some bearings to be delivered from the uk so the wife is taking the landy the 2 km a day to here work, was quite funny watching my 5 foot wife trying to get the screen cleared on a lifted disco on big tyres, i just hit the defrost button on the C5 and waited whilst sat in my heated seats for everything to clear, she wasnt too happy with me as i drove off

Even my old 1996 Nissan QX had one of them, was actually really useful last year:

Wouldn't imagine that would do any good, as it will still use gears 1 and 2, just not use top gear. When i've used autos in the winter, the snow button makes it pull off in a higher gear, 2nd or 3rd I think. Makes for less torque at the wheels, therfore less chance of spinning.
Does the manual say anything about it?

Of course not! Shove another blue ringed octopus on the barbie in our honour Joel! :P :cheesy:

I wasn't kidding about the walnut leaves, it's like something out of a Terry Gilliam cartoon - one hint of frost and woosh! They're a foot deep in places, I've never seen them do that before, it probably means we're in for a hard one.

Anyway, excuse me, I'm off to be electrified and degaussed
