Are you sure you've shopped around enough for insurance?
Don't want to rub it in, but mine was about £300 last year - renewal turned up recently - £550!!
A little bit of surfing later & I've got one quote for £ 296.25.......

Now I know those are very different numbers to those you've been looking at - but that renewal was about an 84% increase.

My lad's 21, been driving 3 years, has a 1.8 diesel focus & his is under £1,000 to insure

Ouch. That's an astronomical figure.

Have you tried the trick with Admiral of adding an experienced lady driver (like your mum) as a named driver? That saved me nearly £200 on the 406!

Also, have you tried the specialists, like Sky Insurance? I called them not expecting them to be competitive and they beat Admiral and took off my voluntary excess!

Vauxhall Flame Red doesn't stay Red for long. It fades really badly.

The ones in the picture of my old Mondeo. That was a Ghia X, but they were also found on the non-RS kitted ST24s. Same pattern as the chrome ones, but much less work & easier to get hold of. Looked into getting the chrome ones when I had the Mondy, but they were hard to find & when they did turn up they were usually well corroded.

Tried shopping around, not getting anywhere.

Vauxhall Flame Red only fades if it's not looked after.

And I don't know if those wheels will suit the Focus to be honest?

Most won't insure me or want limited miles. 3000 miles is only a 1/4 of what I do a year

About the same as a '6.
Not only that they are silly rare now. I'd have to have something with the 1.9TD with a nice spec to even consider it too.

My 405 was (is....I'll fix it one day) a lot cheaper to insure than my 406. They are still out there, the odd decent one pops up on ebay. A 1.9TD exec is what you want. My 405 is a good bit faster than my 406 as it only weighs 1.1 tons. Turn up the boost for up to 120bhp and they are actually pretty rapid.

Personally I would avoid modding and just drive whatever is cheapest and save for something decent later. We've all been there. I drove a 1.2 Clio for long enough.
