Outside Lane Hoggers

Post by Doggy »

Along with the usual modern bad driving techniques, (sudden course changes, no indicators, parking with headlights on), I've noticed another delightful trait emerging.

More & more muppets are hogging the right lane of dual carriageways, because they intend to turn right 4 miles down the road. I can understand wanting to get in the right lane in plenty of time, but people are taking this to rediculous extremes. Like going the whole length of a mile-long stretch, with a 60 speed limit, in the right lane at about 35. Bluddy frustrating.

S'pose you could always undertake, pull in front and slow down.

Its not just on the motorways, the normal roads have a 60mph limit round here but yet you get people driving nissan micras, and ford fiestas at about 20mph, and sitting in the middle of the road so its impossible to get past them. Its really annoying when you need to get somewhere this is worse than being behind a tractor,
in fact one day i was in the tractor and i had to go slow behind someone in a polo and the tractor only has a 40k box.

40kph although there was no way i was doing it, if only the car wasnt in the middle of
the road the tractor had enough left to overtake it.
thats something about tractor drivers i instinctivley pull in once a car is being held up some tractor drivers continue for miles without pulling in usually leaving long tailbacks in their wake

Controversial this but I hate it when drivers *instantly* drop speed when approaching a speed-change restriction, like going from 60 to 30mph, I mean we are allowed some 'grace' to reduce speed during the restriction and gradually drop to 30 as we approach the real reason behind it.

I don't like drivers jumping on the brakes as soon as they see the speed sign and then crawling along at just under 30 for ages  similarly I don't like the 'speed up' driver either who waits to pass the national speed limit sign before increasing speed......I think we're entitled to a sympathetic 'run up' if the way is clear and these bits are always placed well clear of built-up areas.

I once got chased home by a couple of coppers in a Mini Metro, they said they didn't know how fast I was going because they couldn't keep up with me (I think I'd have been in the 1.3 Marina estate then  ). They said they'd noticed me slow down for the 30mph bit but only once I was inside it, I was meant to do the slowing down before I got to the sign, not after. there was actually another 200 yards of trees there until you got to the houses but that didn't seem to be the point. I got a slap on the wrist anyway.

Hmm, I was just looking in Giggle street view and they've moved the sign. About 200 yards further on

Legally you should have slowed to the correct speed as you pass the sign, there should be warning signs of an approaching restriction. Similarly you can not accelerate until you pass the next sign signalling an increase in the legal limit.

Having said that try following a police car through a 30 and watch him pull away from you all the way up the road, never had the balls to keep up with him just in case he'd had a barney with the wife last night and was looking for someone to take it out on :supafrisk:

Blimey welly, you're right! - if you get nabbed, just drag & drop the speed limit sign so no offence was committed. Brilliant. :P

[smutty innuendo mode]

While welly does drive a Volvo and by his own admission, has been known to adhere rigidly to speed limts, (particularly where female students are in evidence), this does not mean he's incapable of getting a wiggle on when aroused.

As we have considerably more oomph, our equipment is eminently more capable, enabling us to make rapid progress, without losing contact with terra-firma, (unlike crash bandicoot puggy in his increasingly desperate efforts to keep up)......

Yes true , the only time welly does get a wiggle on is when he wiggle's his meat at the young students
(hasn't he had a police warning about that ?? )
