intercooler flush

Post by FarmerPug »

A bottle of traffic film remover arrived tonight, does it take long to properly flush out the intercooler, could i do it tomorrow before the retest on saturday. And any advice about using the traffic tim remover, such as how long it should be left to dry?

Ur... TFR to flush out your intercooler?
Don't bother. Petrol does a grand job of it! Stick some in, shake the 'cooler about abit, then place it on it's side with one of the holes pointing to the floor and flush abit more petrol through, then let it drip dry :)

Yup true,
but petrol stinks, and takes an age to vent off,
ipersonaly wouidnt use it, but thats just My opinion,

imentioned Meths as that stuff is like Alchol, stinks for abit but all the liquid /smells vanish taking what evergunks there with it,
iwonder,if Parrafin,or abit of cherry derv wouid work better, ibet franks got alot of that stuff around the farm, :P

Ah feck your right petrol may have done i chose the TFR because someone suggested it recently, i cleaned out an intercooler for jasper the time i went to post it to him, but i did that because it was bogging, i just used water that time it didn't clean it completely, i don't know if jasper used anything to fully clean the intercooler when it arrived.

Sorry i didn't see your posts before doing the flush there today, i took the intercooler out which i thought was a simple case of taking off the 2 pipes and crossmember (that bar that goes along the top if I've named it wrong). But the air filter box and battery box have had to come out also to get the intercooler out.

I cleaned the outside of the intercooler just splashed some of the stuff on and then rubbed it in with a brush, on both sides then let it work for a few mins and washed it off, it does clean the outside very well, then i flushed water through a couple of times and filled it with TFR and let it sit for 2 mins, then emptied half out sloshed it about and flushed it a few times until there was no TFR in it, then put more in again sloshed it about, and then cleaned it again.
So its definatley much cleaner inside the intercooler, i got a glass filled it with the water from the hose and compared it to the water coming from the intercooler and they seemed to be both equally clean.
Here is not fully before more in the middle of the cleaning:

and cleaned:

And this was the TFR, which smells and looks very similar to the stuff my dad uses to wash the ambulance although that stuff bubbles a bit more:

I haven't got the intercooler back in, its sitting drying although i had to go to a neighbours to wire up a dark sensing light, then when i was there another neighbour seen this getting done and wanted the same thing done, many cups of tea were offered, and when i got finished it was dark.
Should i dry the intercooler with a hairdryer, or use an airline to blow the inside of it out?

Intercoolers back in, set it beside the super see for a while, then blew a hairdryer in the hole and it seemed dry enough although can a drop of water do any harm?

I opened the bonnet and went to put the intercooler back in, and this cat jumped up, haven't got a clue who owns her but she has started to hang about the house, one of them cats that follows your every step and trip you up type.

But the car still works, it doesn't do 160mph or rev to 10,000 rpm, the difference isn't huge just a wee bit better at pulling.
