Renault Clio Cutting out at junctions

Post by FarmerPug »

The clio has developed a fault where it cuts out if you don't keep your foot on the throttle, it also doesn't idle very smooth a puff every few seconds, and a light on the dash which is the same as the glow plug light although its a petrol.
Whats the renault version of PP2000? and does this sound like something to do with a distributor (probably a coil in this one) or spark plugs?

Idle speed control valve, get it out, give it a good clean in brake cleaner/petrol. Let it dry and give it a squirt of WD40.
If that dosen't fix it then you will need to replace it.

is that the plug down between the engine and gearbox i had it out when the car didn't start although it was a problem with the starter that was the issue then.

No the idle speed control valve goes inbetween the inlet manifold and the throttle body.

The coil pack on the Clio is complete with the plug leads, you buy them as a kit complete with leads.

The main problem with the Clios is usually the injectors.

An ordinary code reader will read the codes on these. It will usually read injectors open circuit, or cylinder misfire if it's the coil pack/plug leads.

The spark plugs are removed using a deep 14 mm 3/8th drive socket.

its a 2002 clio 1.2 16v.
Its symptoms definatley feel coil related, although the spark plugs probably need changing also. So any fault code reader will tell me whats wrong, what sort would also remove the airbag light?

Im not a renault fan either, Its engine has all that plastic tat sitting over it:

i havent a clue what that is, is air actually going through them plastic pipes.

The old fiat was much better once the air filter come out of the way you seen every thing, throttle body, spark plugs, etc
Image
i seen the fiat the other day in belfast still buzzing away, i still miss it

Re:air bag,
check the connectors under the seats, ithink theres one Grey one, one brown one blue on renaults,
with keys in pocket, unclip them an put them back in,
sometimes the light will go out on Renaults with no need of a laptop,

Renault& citroen seem to be prone for bad conections under the seats,

its approaching 60k miles dun dun dooon :cheesy:
i have no idea about the timing belt ill need to check the service history, but its may be unpleasent, what i found odd was when i changed the air filter which is on the right i shone in a torch through the hole behind it i could see bits of engine in there i think i could see the cam or valves which is a bit odd. is that plastic thing a rocker cover?

Theres plastic caps that fits on the end of the cam cover,
if theyre missing chances are the timing belt as been changed,

The plastic thing is the inlet manifold,
on the Megs its a good hour to get all that crap off, abit like De-shelling a lobster :(
