e -readers

Post by trem1 »

I'm thinking of buying Mrs T an e-reader for xmas but dont really know much about them, so thought i'd ask people's experiences/thoughts on them.
She likes to read books but only from certain authors so how easy are they to download, she is a real technophob so it doesnt have to have wifi or anything as i'll just download onto the desktop and transfer them over.
On the small amount of research ive done there seems to be backlit screens and e-ink? whatever that is.
Price isnt too important but ease of use is BUT we dont know how much she's gonna use it so i dont want to spend lots.

Any advice

yea i realised :)
looks like the new kindle is favorite @ £89, but trying to get my head around backlit or e-ink :?
It has to be really really easy to use as well otherwise it'll just gather dust, well it would if she wasnt constantly polishing/dusting etc :)
Can ebooks be 'found ' on the internet ??

Ive read on a kindle, and on an iPad, the kindle is much more comfortable for reading books on, the display is like an old black and white nokia screen except the resolution is much clearer and sharper, you can read them in sunny or bright areas, they really are like reading a book.

the iPad is more expensive, but then you can do a lot more on them, although the screen is good it just isnt the same for reading from, not as good in the sunlight and can be a bit irritating to stare at for long times.

It's ok, I can watch it through a proxy, it just pisses me off the amount of times I see that

It's very hard to find useful reviews because this stuff goes out of date in minutes.

Kindle: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/pc-p ... ictTab#top

I think I'd be investigating the Kindle, mainly because the rest are money-grubbing barstewards (especially The Sony World Domination and Dangerous Toy Co. who are kings of the above bullshit  )
