I suspect it'll be whatever it's going to be, whether we worry about it or not.
If the Greeks can have a referendum on whether or not to try & drag the rest of Europe into their mess, I think we owe it to ourselves to appoint that Irish fella who blammed it all on 'greed & w*nking f*cking bankers' to sort it all out.

Re: The whole economy thing
Didn't the Germans try that once? Printing loads of money, then their economy nose-dived and you needed a wheelbarrow full of cash to buy a potato. Then they put some bloke in charge because he wrote a book blaming it all on "vanking facking jews". He didn't have a beard though. Oh, and he was in prison.

Re: The whole economy thing
I suppose the UK is just about 'hanging in there' because the population is so high (lots of Taxes being paid £££) and we do have industry such as Rolls Royce, Ship Building, Range Rover Evoques? (which'll all end up on some Californian's driveway) etc. Greece don't really 'make' anything so rely on tourism I suppose, which has seen a downturn, on top of their other problems. As said before though, what ever happens will happen and it probably won't make much difference to us day-to-day.
Most of the major cut backs announced by the 'new' government here haven't really started yet I think. Some seem to think the situation will get worse before it gets better here.
I have definitely cut back in spending, well, more to the point, I don't have the cash to spend that I did have 2 years ago
the funny thing is I haven't really witnessed anything unusual out there in the real world.....whenever we go to a shopping centre it is rammed full of people and on the super-rare occasion we have a meal out then the place will be pretty full as normal
and I've seen so many new cars knocking about it is unreal
Maybe the best policy is to carry on and pretend everything is ok - Gordon Brown anyone?

Re: The whole economy thing
The problem with just creating more money is devaluation. For example, let's say the uk has 1 bar of gold, we back our currency against it. Now lwts say this gold is worth £100 we can then print off that £100 to circulate as currency.
Now if the uk wants to do business with other countries, that's all fine and dandy. But if we were running out of our £100 and then created another £100 the other countries who were trading with you would be annoyed as £1 that they had exchanged goods for would now only be worth 50p.
And this is devaluation in a simple form. And its because of this very thing that we have been in wars in the middle east.
The yanks have devalued the dollar to such a point that ten odd years ago a certain Iraqi leader decided he wasn't going to take a devalued dollar anymore for oil. He wanted to take the euro instead. Guess what happened next.
Then more recently a certain middle eastern leader in Libya who had said he was going to refuse the dollar for his oil suddenly found himself outed and a more "dollar friendly" leadership put in place.
They are doing it all over. Egypt had a new government recently too. And watch Syria in the next few months, and Iran.
The Greeks will leave the euro that is certain and it will collapse, the system is screwed now. They can keep trying to prop it up but it will fail.
The Italians will go, followed by others and the euro will be gone. I've heard a rumor that the Greeks are already printing their old currency in readiness. And that will leave us in a bad place.

Re: The whole economy thing
I work in the haulage game import and export to Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Norway, things are slowing down again. But on the plus side a lot of the uks export has gone up recentl, but it will be short lived I fear.
Those companies Welly mentioned are both German.
In 08 the uk was half hour away from having cash machines switched off. If you look around the .gov site somewhere there are the protocols for a financial collapse of uk currency. Makes scary reading.
All banks close up shop and get police guard, all cash machines switched off and marshal law and curfews put in place. If you had savings they would be gone. Food and water would be rationed again with government coupons until a new system wa worked out. Basically the upshot is a complete shut down.
This is a worse case scenario already worked out and ready should it be needed.
The advice I've been given is to take all savings out of the banking system and buy gold and silver. The fact I have no savings doesn't help me but if I did I still wouldn't buy gold or silver, I mean if the Pooh hits the fan I can't feed my family that can I?
Best thing to do is to have enough to eat and drink for about 3 months. I don't mean to scare anyone but something could happen like this and its better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Edit.
Looks like Iran is going to be next. According to the gaurdian us and British forces are preparing for missile attacks on key Iranian targets. Apparently they are getting a bit rude with their nuclear technology.
Who remembers the "they have weapons of mass destruction we must go in" s**t

The problem with that is that you'll have a bed full of worthless bits of paper. You need commodities that others will want which can be traded... Tins of food, booze and cigs anyone? Actually it might be worth stockpiling fuelTooT wrote:![]()

I've heard the UK government will confiscate ALL Peugeot 406 Estates and use them as military vehicles.......
Priority confiscation will go to:
HPi Petrols.
*really* clean Diablo Red's (pref with aftermarket wheels).
ANY Diesel cars purported to have increased power capability.
And, 1No. Coupe, in Red, with a 2.2 Petrol engine, in the Scottish regions, for 'Surveillance duty'.

Particularly when these gas-guzzling, power-mad, can't-switch-lights-off, eco-terrorists attempt to divert attention from their own profligate wastage of precious resources in this, our country's time of need.
Shame on you!
