Holts Tyre Weld for leaky rims?

Post by Welly »

Her indoors' Astra suffers leaky rims on two alloys and I've had a tyre place take the tyres off and clean up the inner rims and a painted coating of a rubbery black paint/sealer applied but still they loose about 10Psi per week.

Pissed off with constantly pumping them back up, or worse, her indoors 'having' to do it when I forget I thought bugger it I'll squib in half a can of Tyre weld into each tyre and see what goes.

I drove at least 18 miles at various speeds to disperse the stuff but do you reckon it'll work or cause any problem I haven't thought about? I don't suppose the next tyre fitter will be too pleased when it comes to it :supafrisk:

Buggered if I know, although that stuff is only meant to be in your tyre long enough for you to get it fixed properly so I don't know what it'll do if it's in there for a couple of years (something to look for on the manufacturer's website perhaps?)

I was reading on that Toy otter forum that some of the later RAVs don't' come with a spare (seems they're not alone), they either have run flat tyres (don't ask  ) or a tin of tyre repair and some tyre fitters don't actually cry with joy when they see them - one guy had a fitter refuse to do anything with his tyre and had to either buy a new tyre there and then or else take his custom elsewhere. On 3 wheels

Btw they all advocate fitting a TPWS (if not already fitted) because they reckon by the time you notice the flat it's too late to save the tyre anyway.

That is a bit of a pain, you'd think at 10psi a week there'd be enough to spot where it's coming from in the bath, so I guess it's the wheels going porous :(

Yes it's common I'm told on Vauxhall wheels they sort of 'peel' on the inside whereas the outside are as tough as old boots :?

The stuff's in there now so no going back, I just got fed up and thought it must be worth a try as there is no 'puncture' as such and taking the wheels off one at a time over 2 or 3 days for the tyre place to paint some of their 'magic paint' inside the rim is a ball ache for me (can't do it whilst you wait, takes too long).

it wasnt too long ago one of the alloys on my jeep leaked and the tyre place put a tube into it, no need to worry about sealing the alloy

well i sell and install a product called puncture safe which is a 100 times better than tyre weld but it is not designed to seal rims but sometimes it does.
my product is bio degradeable and washes out with warm water
most rims leak because A-they have gone porus or B-they are not sealing on the rim due to dirt/rust or C a leaky valve.
if you can get the wheel off and but it in the kids paddling pool[or simalar water container] this will show you where the air is escaping from.
tyres in tubes
i know lots of people do this but in most cases its wrong
the clue is in the word tubeless, and if you have accident you will be in trouble.
