just to warning of you all......................
i sold my old car in april this year and did everything i had to do. sent log book off to dvla. i thought that was the end of it till 2weeks ago when i recieved a letter demarnding £35 buy 12nov 2011 for not informing them of the disposel of the car. but like i said i did so i thought. i told them id sent it off but stll they say i have to pay as i didnt make sure they got it.

so.................................. for a small fee i will and recomend to you all that you get it signed for at the other end so you know they have got it.

I had this once, about ten years back mind, I wrote back and said I'd sent it to them and it wasn't my fault if they'd lost it. I never heard any more

It was Mentioned on watch dog the other week,
theres been afew caught out with it or was that the sorn thing,

they increase the fine and eventualy send the Debt to Bailifs so they say,
igot a fine not long back, irefused to pay it they sent the matter to county courts,
not heard nothing since.

im not paying them,

If you've paid this, you're a idiot. Tell them your responsabilty ends as soon as you drop it into the post box.
I've had 3 of these, and never paid.

I've had something similar, I had kept the log books of about 3 or 4 cars I had boken up and was just when they'd brought the sorn thing out, I rang them up and told them I had sent the log books back all filled in (even though they were sat in my filing cabinet in the office) I just put the relevant dates on them, photo copied them and faxed the copies. Never heard anymore about it.

This has come up numerous times on Watchdog, with the DVLA telling people it's up to THEM to chase the DVLA if they hear nothing.

Fair enough if you're taxing your car or something, but when you've got rid of your car it's not exactly at the forefront of your mind! Absolutely ridiculous.

Same happened to me a few years ago with a car I'd SORNed, I didn't get a reminder through to re-SORN it, so I got a fine, they said they had definitely sent the reminder and I still had to pay the fine.
