This morning, thought it would be a good idea to give the car a well deserved major service.
Thing is, when it came time to do the plugs, I managed to get the coil pack off and then back on again, but in the process of doing so - snapped one of the heads off the bolts which holds the coil pack into the tappet cover...I'm blaming the age of the bolt and that it is subject to high temperatures, although the realist in me puts it down to my sh*t DIY skills.
So what is the remedy to get the remainder of the screw out - car still runs and drives, as the coil pack is firmly in place, albeit without one of the heads on the screws holding it down!
Should I:
a) Sell the car and buy a GTI of some sorts...
b) Leave it as is, and deal with it in 20k when the plugs are due next...
c) Fix it now and don't be such a lazy bastard...
Bummer...

Re: Bummer...
How big are these bolts? Could you drill the centre of the bolt and use a smaller bolt to hold it down? I wouldnt worry too much if it's driving ok though.

Re: Bummer...
or if there is a small bit of the bolt an old chisel and you may be able to tap it round hitting gently with a hammer......
Or tap into the middle of it to create a groove and screw it out that way?

Re: Bummer...
If you can get mole grips on the broken screw, try that, otherwise just leave it be!
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: Bummer...
if it can be drilled without bits ending up in the oil (i snapped a rocker cover bolt on my jeep, possibly contributing to the demis of that engine) then drill a slighly off centered hole and tap it out and around with a small screwdriver or nail.
Re: Bummer...
Well - considering it is in the rocker cover and not the head itself - i'd say that there is a lower chance of getting metal filings in the upper reaches of the motor.
For now, leave it be me thinks!

Re: Bummer...
Drill a hole down the centre of the bolt, soak in WD40 leave for a while and then use an EasyOut screw extractor. If all else fails get a new rocker cover from a scrappy.
