New cold war looming?

Post by TRAVIS BICKLE »

This is related to a post in the thread "The whole economy thing" re the next middle eastern country to be "liberated"

Russia threatens to block NATO routes
LaRouche version:

Rogozin: Russia To Review Its Entire Relationship With NATO
November 29, 2011 • 8:14AM

Russia's Ambassador to NATO Dmitry Rogozin warned, in remarks to the State Duma today that if the U.S. and NATO don't respond appropriately to Russia's concerns regarding the European missile defense system then Russia will have to review its relationship to NATO in other areas, as well. This could include Russia's cooperation in NATO's northern supply route that passes through Russia and Central Asia on its way to Afghanistan. Rogozin's comments came in the context of the Nov. 23 speech by President Dmitry Medvedev outlining the measures Russia will take if it isn't given binding guarantees that European missile defense isn't aimed at Russia. According to the TV network, Russia Today, Rogozin told the Duma that when it comes to national security, Moscow must think globally, just as our partners do. He stressed that Russia would only be respected if its partners see it as a power that is capable of an adequate response to any aggressor or group of aggressors. The diplomat pointed out that the U.S. plans all its military operations based on the concept of a lightning strike. NATO can simultaneously fight two large wars and six medium-scale ones. "It's a good question, especially for us, who would be enemies in large wars," Rogozin noted.

Rogozin ridiculed U.S. proposals to allow Russian experts to monitor tests of the system as "absurd." "It looks more like propaganda than a serious proposal," he said. "Our specialists might have been interested in monitoring the tests if they could use telemetric equipment but Washington will not allow that. They said our experts could look through binoculars from some sort of a barge from a long distance. We have a planetarium in Moscow and it is very exciting to watch the stars there, so they might well have invited us to visit this planetarium."

Rogozin also reported that he will be traveling to both Tehran and Beijing in January to discuss the U.S. missile defense plan with officials in both Iran and China. He said he would meet with Foreign Ministry and General Staff officials in China, and hold talks with the head of the Supreme National Security Council and diplomats in Iran. Earlier in the day, Rogozin met with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to discuss preparations for the ministerial meeting of the NATO-Russia Council on Dec. 8. Medvedev's Nov. 23 address is expected to be a major topic of discussion at the gathering.

From Vinay Shukla
Moscow, Nov 29 (PTI) Amid tensions with the West over the Syrian crisis, Russia is dispatching its only operational aircraft carrier along with two support ships to its Soviet-era Mediterranean support base in Syria''s Tartus port, according to media reports.

"The Russian naval task force will consist of three warships led by the heavy aircraft-carrying missile cruiser, Admiral Kuznetsov," ''Izvestia'' daily reported.

It noted that the long-planned mission comes, providentially, at the very moment when it could help prevent a potential conflict in the strategically important Middle Eastern country.

According to Izvestia the mission is set to start in early December, when the ''Admiral Kuznetsov'', the flagship of its nuclear Northern Fleet will begins its voyage in the Barents Sea, accompanied by the heavy antisubmarine destroyer ''Admiral Chabanenko''.

The group will then skirt the European continent from the west and enter the Mediterranean through the Strait of Gibraltar. Later, they will be joined by frigate ''Ladny'' of Russia''s Black Sea Fleet.

''Admiral Kuznetsov'' will be carrying eight Sukhoi Su-33 all-weather fighters, two Kamov Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopters and several brand new Mig-29K fighters.

The Soviet Union had created a special naval squadron to deter Western military forces in the Mediterranean Sea and had created a maintenance base in Syria''s Tartus. .

George Orwell’s guide to the news
FYI:
"The Western mainstream media falsifies the news resorting to euphemisms, half-truths and lies in the best (worst) style of George Orwell’s novel 1984. We all live in the unreal world of “Newspeak” used by the Global Power Elite to control our minds.

Man gets confused when things that happen around him and to him, or which are done in his name, cannot be properly grasped, understood or made sense of. Normally, such confusion leads to inaction. If you’re lost at night in the middle of a forest but you can still see the stars, then a bit of astronomical knowledge will at least quickly tell you which way is north. But if it’s cloudy or you’re ignorant of the constellations in starry heaven, then you might as well light up a fire and do nothing until dawn…. You’re Lost!

Today, mainstream media coverage uses programmed distortion, confusion, even outright lying when its Money Power masters order it to support the “official story” on any major political, economic or financial process. When looked at closely, however, the “official story” of things can be seen to be inaccurate, misleading, often hardly believable if not downright stupid.

Examples of this: Iraq’s inexistent WMD’s leading to the invasion and destruction of that country; global mega-banker bail-outs with taxpayer money; irrational US diplomatic, military, financial and ideological alignment to Israeli objectives; “we-killed-Osama-Bin-Laden-and-dumped-his-body-into-the-sea”; and the wide array of “whodunits” surrounding 9/11 in New York and Washington, 7/7 in London, the AMIA/Israeli Embassy attacks in Buenos Aires in 1992/1994, and – of course – that all time favorite: who shot JFK…?

These are but a few of the paradigmatic cases that have at least served to trigger millions of people to wake up and think with their own minds instead of the mainstream media’s! But unfortunately the vast majority of such cases are not so clear-cut. The vast majority of Newspeak lies are like knots, difficult to untie as they carry built-in complexity resembling Gordian Knots. And, as with all Gordian Knots, you need to cut right through them, and this requires swift and precise action plus a good measure of intellectual courage.

To give an example of what we say, let’s take a quick look at how a “Newspeak” operation works. It requires sequential planning, it requires time, it requires proper logistics, it requires “credible” spokespeople in public and private sectors, it requires choosing the right words and images at the right time and in the right circumstances.
So, let’s say the Global Power Elite – working through the governments of the US, UK, EU into which they are deeply embedded, and joint-venturing with a wide array of media outlets, defense companies, oil companies, security and construction companies, and powerful lobbies – decide that they wish to overrun and destroy a specific country… Libya, for example…

How do they ensure that “the international community” will just quietly look on (except for the still relatively small minority of voices that are increasingly raising hell against them)?

The Seven Step Mainstream Media Country Destruction Guide
1. First, they start by targeting a country ripe for “Regime Change”, and brand it a “rogue state”; then…
2. They arm, train, finance local terrorist groups through CIA, MI6, Mossad, Al-Qaeda (a CIA operation), drug cartels (often CIA operations) and call them “freedom fighters”; then…
3. As mock UN Security Council Resolutions are staged that rain death and destruction upon millions of civilians, they call it “UN sanctions to protect civilians”; then…
4. They spread flagrant lies through their “newsrooms” and paid journalists, and call it "the international community’s concerns expressed by prestigious spokespeople and analysts…” then…
5. They bomb, invade and begin to control the target country and call it “liberation”; then…
6. As the target country falls fully under their control, they impose “the kind of democracy that we want to see” (as Hillary Clinton before visiting Egypt and Tunisia on March 10, 2011), until finally…
7. They steal appetizing oil, mineral and agricultural reserves handing them over to Global Power Elite corporations, and impose unnecessary private banking debt and call it “foreign investment and reconstruction.”

Their keynotes are: Force and Hypocrisy, which they have used time and again to destroy entire countries, always in the name of “freedom”, “democracy”, “peace” and “human rights”. Utmost force and violence is used to achieve their ends and goals.

Their Elders recommended this many decades ago in a blueprint for World Domination written on a hoary manuscript of old…

“What did you say…? That you don’t want to be ‘liberated’ and ‘democratized’?!?”

“Then, take this Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Hanoi, Berlin, Dresden, Baghdad, and Basra!! Take that Tokyo, Gaza, Lebanon, Kabul, Pakistan, Tripoli, Belgrade, Egypt, El Salvador and Grenada!! And take that, Panama, Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Somalia, Africa!!”

Always bombing people to smithereens… Always, of course, in the name of “freedom”, “democracy”, “peace” and “human rights”"

I had guessed Iran would be next on the hit list. And since the below article was published the US has increased sanctions further still.
Bad news for us in blighty is that it looks like oil prices are set to rocket again.

"On November 21st, America, UK and Canada announced more sanctions against Iran.
France also proposed to adopt new sanctions to force Tehran to stop it's nuclear project.

On Nov 23rd, the spokesman of Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'s Foreign Ministry said in a regular press conference held in Beijing that China is opposed to unilateral sanctions against Iran.

Scholars believe that, being isolated, China and Iran need mutual support. Meanwhile, the CCP government, with internal and external difficulties, may express an even tougher diplomatic "voice".

"Reuters" reported on Nov 23rd: "The United States, UK and Canada have announced new sanctions against Iran in the areas of energy and finance. France proposed 'unprecedented' new sanctions, including freezing the assets of the Central Bank of Iran and suspending the purchase of Iran's oil.

Earlier, the "International Atomic Energy Agency" (IAEA) had issued a report that Iran may be secretly developing nuclear weapons.

On Nov 23rd, the CCP's Foreign Ministry expressed opposition to the imposition of unilateral sanctions against Iran.

In this regard, Xia Ming, a political professor from "City University of New York" in America, believes that since the Cold War, the United States and Western society's
biggest challenges have been seen as being from China and Iran. They are both isolated by the United States and the West. Therefore, China's policy is foreseeable.

Xia Ming says: "China and Iran are facing strong Western challenges within politics, economy and culture. So these two countries basically have a kind of coordination
on the international stage, to support each other. So we can see that China and Iran coordinate a lot, with a lot of cooperation in matters of energy, arms and so on."

"Associated Press" also reported on Nov 23rd: "Since 2006, the United Nations have carried out 4 rounds of sanctions against Iran. But with export of energy, Iran has not been severely affected by the sanctions."

"AFP" said: "China supports Iran and purchases large quantities of oil from Iran.
Meanwhile, China is Iran's biggest trading partner. Their bilateral trade totals up to $ 30 billion.

"Voice of America" reported, according to Chinese customs data, this year (2011) Iran could become China's second largest crude oil supplier.

However, Iran disdains the new round of sanctions. Israel and Washington said in the event that other efforts were not effective, the possibility of military action would not be ruled out.

It's puzzling to some that Major General Zhang Zhaozhong,a professor from the Chinese National Defense University, said China will not hesitate to protect Iran even
with a third World War.

Professor Xia Ming: "Zhang Zhaozhong said that not hesitating to fight a third world war would be entirely for domestic political needs. To some extent though, this would be completely ridiculous to encourage"

Professor Xia Ming pointed out that the United States andWestern societies may deal with Iran by a method of "Jasmine Revolution", similar to what happened in Libya.
From the perspective of the Libya model, NATO could not possibly involve itself in large-scale military action, and it would be impossible to start a new war.

In fact, a senior European diplomat with anonymity in Tehran said that the Iranian government was actually very worried about a military strike. Analysts also say that ordinary people don't worship their leaders so much any more.

But Professor Xia Ming said that the CCP regime itself is facing a much bigger crisis than Iran. The CCP regime not only faces challenges from Southeast Asia, the South China Sea, South Asia countries and so on, but also faces the pressure from America for the RMB exchange rate, export, and human rights issues, as well as the pressure of domestic issues meanwhile.

Professor Xia Ming says : "China is facing pressure from America. Meanwhile, current domestic pressure is also very considerable. In particular, we can see in civil society, the challenge to the Chinese government and resistance forces are growing. Therefore, the Chinese government is indeed facing the arrival of a big power shift in the 18th session. So, China may express a tougher diplomatic voice. On the one hand, it is a reaction to pressure from America. On the other hand, it needs to meet the demand of domestic nationalist groups.

Russia is another ally of Iran, with similar policy to that of China. Toward Iran.
