Not Audi ones, but it does look like it has had a liberal helping of Halfords stick-on parts at the front.

That's what I think when I see one. Downsides are they're immense - they only just fit the length into most parking spaces - & they are very complicated. The ex-Pug mechanic who did my driveshaft was telling me how they all had to go on a 2 day course when it came out, just to learn the stuff that was specific to the 607.

I loved my one, but it was a 2.2. Only issues I ever had with mine were related to the FAP, so a 110 should give no bother.

Obviously as you know have a look at the drivers seat bolster as they never seem to take a pic with it included and the S's i looked at seem to wear heavily.

Mondeo is nice, but clutches don't seem to last. My TDDi had paperwork for a clutch change at 70k & a TDCi 130 I looked at buying had a knackered one at 84k. Seems to be a lot of gripes about injectors on TDCis, but most of the taxi drivers round here use them with no bother, so could just be down to poor maintenance.

C5s are decent, but ride should be amazingly smooth - if not, there's a fault somewhere.

Xsaras are decent, but bear in mind that the cabin & boot (on the hatch anyway) are significantly smaller than the 406. Not sure how old your kids are with regards to child seats & leg length, but your wife may be faced with the choice of sitting with her knees against the dash or getting the seat back kicked.

This is why I have a bit of a hatred for (most) car traders. They think that anybody with less than £10k to give them should be grateful for 4 wheels & some metal. It isn't just a £500 thing - I've heard the same thing from traders who were offered £1000, £2000 & even £5000.

Personally, I would have said the same thing as I said to the last trader that asked me "What do you expect for £????"...

My reply was "Honesty" & I hung up the phone.

Coming in a close 2nd was one of the BMW sellers when I was looking for a 5 Series for my Dad. Bearing in mind that we were getting it as a gift, I was being even more fussy than I would be for my own, so I rang the seller who stated that the car was "immaculate". When he told me that there were "a few marks in keeping with the age" (another trader's favourite phrase to save giving details of the dozen dents scuffs & scrapes) we got into a bit of a debate about the definition of the word "immaculate" & even got to the (religious) point of the "immaculate conception" not being so called because she'd only had sex once or twice...

Back to the car though, & I do think you're on the right track with looking for a TD rather than HDi. You know the engines & for the same money as a fairly good HDi you can get a bloody fantastic TD these days.

im still thinking of going for that one but guy says timing belt was done at 66k... so to 160k on same belt its due a new one...

if its tidy and i can get john (jasper) to do the cambelt i should end up with a decent car for around £800

guy eventually went through the receipts it has over the phone . and i lost track he was saying so much had been done to it

Cambelt and water pump aren't that difficult to replace Garry. That shouldn't be your main gripe with this car. This should:
