607 2.2 HDi SE
Have a chance of a really nice, well looked after 607 for a decent price (he got offered sweet fa in px). It's just over 80k & has had loads of money spent in last year (cambelt, clutch & FAP service). Insurance is an extra £100, but it's lovely & comfortable with a 6 speed box & lots of room. Things that put me off though are that there's loads of gadgets to go wrong, it's only got 5 seats & it's a saloon (albeit with a huge boot). Wife does say that we don't need the extra seats as we shouldn't be taking the "extended family" into account.
Anybody got much experience with these & is it likely to be a straightforward deFAP? May even be worth a visit to Reidyremaps as they do fairly good deals on deFAPs & remaps at the same time.

Ilooked into the 607s last year,
only bad thing ifound is the insurance is sky-high, dont know why tho as theyve got a good N-cap rating,
there now known as the Secound hand car buyers Dream,
alot of car for alot less then youd pay for another motor of that standard,
as of Reliability they must be good as theres not many if any Broken ones in scrapyards,
I've not seen a one,

they are lovely and most confortable cars, really.
What year and what engine? the BTED4 or the ATED4? If it's the former, grab it! It's a lovely engine the biturbo, extremely good for remaps. I rekon the defapping shouldn't be a problem either.
Oh, 6 speed box, so it's the biturbo! Yay! Lucky you.

Re: 607 2.2 HDi SE
I wouldn't be scared of one, my theory is that they should be better built in the first place due to the lengths they go to to try and 'make it' in the luxury car sector. Peugeot's climate control in the 406 is superb, the 607 will probably have dual climate but it should still be reliable.
Have you tried searching the internet for any common problems on the 607?
I guess they're the sort of cars bought by enthusiastic owners and well looked after?

The Reason for the depreciation in value is, it was out cast in around 2007 or 2008
something simalar pug built, cast them out, ithink italy is flooded with them so odin will most probs know alot about them
the one ilooked at only had one fault, something about fuel cap sensor,
it was alovely motor, but after getting a on the spot insurance quote for it ihad to leave it where it was,

Probably, 'cause their used value is so low. Also here, where they continued to sell it. High-level french cars are just cheap because everyone wants a german one.Welly wrote:I wouldn't be scared of one, my theory is that they should be better built in the first place due to the lengths they go to to try and 'make it' in the luxury car sector. The only thing I don't like in the 607 is the central dashboard, looks so dated.
The exterior design is very modern, too moden maybe, as I prefer the 406.

No not really, why? They are actually pretty rare, for some reason here everyone buys stupid, boring and extremely expensive german stuff.lozz wrote: something simalar pug built, cast them out, ithink italy is flooded with them so odin will most probs know alot about them![]()
Also 80% of the market here is for estates, not saloons, and the 607 wasn't, so it didn't have many sales... much less than the already rare 406.
France, on the contrary, had a good deal of them.

Not cheap there Steve, in Ita they are much cheaper than that. Not as cheap than 406s, but close. (still several times more expensive than in UK)

Definitely not a biturbo as it's only a 52 plate & they didn't sell those over here until a few years later. It has the same engine as Doggy's, but not sure if the remap file that everybody's been using would be any good on a 607. Worst case scenario is that it may cost £3-400 all in at Reidy's. Had a look at www.carsurvey.org & honestjohn & the main complaints seem to be the standard Peugeot stuff (electrics). It's a nice shade of blue with black leather interior. Only upgrade potential that I can see so far is the bigger wheels when the tyres go as it's only on the 16ins multispokes & they look a little lost under a car so immense. May also see if I can get an adaptor to plug my MP3 changer in place of the standard cd changer, but as far as stereo goes I wouldn't change anything else as it just wouldn't look right.OdinEidolon wrote:they are lovely and most confortable cars, really.

Going to take the bos.. wife round over the weekend to see if she likes it & to see if the little man will have the extra legroom I'm hoping for - we're starting to see footprints on the back of the seat where he can reach it now!

The 2.2 engine our 406 has was mated only to a 5 speed box as far as I know. But this may have happened in Ita only.waue1978 wrote:Definitely not a biturbo as it's only a 52 plate & they didn't sell those over here until a few years later. If the engine's the same so it would probably be with the remap, imho.

Re: 607 2.2 HDi SE
Over here it got mated to a 6 speed in late C5s (2004 on) & the 607 manuals. There were rumours at launch that we'd get the 607 with the 2.7 HDi, but it never happened. The late spec 170bhp 2.2 was probably good enough though - but well out of my price range. Did always fancy an auto if I was going to get a 607, but bearing in mind how good the French are at making auto boxes...
