Brewery lane

Post by scotty73 »

I know a lot of you guys are cheap tight barstewards when it comes to fuel for your xud's so i thought i'd save you even more cash (for when you dont have to drive of course)
A few months back i stumbled (parden the punn) upon a recipe for cider made from supermarket apple juice and bread yeast, it is very nice indeed and only takes 3 days to ferment and another 3 before quaffable (if a bit somerset scrumpy looking  )... left longer it does clear nicely.

Also from the same person is a wine recipe for both white and red (i tried a glass of both tonight) that takes a bit longer but if you got the white grape juice from asda it would be £3.50 for 6 bottles of very nice white wine or the red grape juice from lidl would be £3.40 for 6 bottles plus wine yeast from wilko that is about £2 and will last a few batches.

My prefered method for the cider is get a 5 liter water bottle (empty) pour in two 1.5ltr cartons of smart price apple juice (69p each) 1 teaspoon of bread yeast... leave for two days behind my settee by the radiator (making sure lid aint to tight) after two days pour another 1.5ltr carton of apple juice into the mix leave for a day then syphon off into coke bottles and leave for 3 days.

Sediment will form at the bottom so if you like scrumpy pour swiftly into another pop bottle leaving sediment behind... longer you leave it the better though.... oh and if you xud boys like filtering your veg oil try that with the cider too it does taste better.

Interesting. I suspect my bro imports his plonk from France just as cheaply - his favourite Corbières is around £4 a bottle here and € 1.50 in french supermarkets, (same bottle / lable etc). By the 10l 'brick' it's under 75p/litre.

The first 1000 miles of each bi-anual procurement expedition are WVO-fuelled too.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
