other cars you have owned

Post by Mig5 »

As above, what other cars have you had, how long, ramblings, opinions etc

me first, in order:
- Fiat Tempra 1.4 sx, my parents wanted me to get a UNO, I wanted something bigger (safer I thought) and I crash it (near writte off) within 6 weeks.
-Renault Clio 1.2 rn, crap, slow, thirsty, etc
-Pug 106 GTI, owned for 7 years, 18 months along with my scoob. was great, fast enough, did some trackdays, very reliable, never missed a beat. Nearly died when thermostat failed and I kinda ignored it for a bit...
-Subaru Impreza Turbo, had it 4 years, took it to the 'ring twice, very fast, spent much money in insurance and upkeep, but what performance!
-Mazda Mx5 1.6, slow, overated, gay  , etc.
-406 Hdi- now, 3 weeks into it, too early to judge.

Tell you what, the forum's gotten so big that it's getting very hard to find stuff, I can't find threads even when I know their titles these days! :(

Fiat uno Dai? Nicole, pappa ahhh... Sorry with a name like Dairees i had to get that twin town refferance in.

Been driving a good few years now and started with a chocolate brown escort van old s reg 1.3 petrol fitted with a fiberglass inside to the back of it i even had a carpet and matress in it.

Next was a 1.0 mini mayfair, fun little car went like a rocket off a roundabout and the handbrake was fun on the local football field.
Then me and the mrs forked out £1300 on a D reg red Escrote... What a horrible fooking car and the reason i hate fords up to this day.... But... But we then bought another one a blue H reg eclipse with all the toys... Found out it had been in a front end shunt and got rid.

Traded it for an H reg astra, cracking car but 2 door went like sh*t off a stick but needed a 4 door so got a k reg 1.6 cavalier which after 4 years of happy motoring we had to scrap so we got a citroen xsara 1.9td t reg now that thing could fly and was brilliant on fuel.

Then the 406 in December, i have to say i miss the citroen it was a flying machine, cheaper to insure but the handbrake on that was shite too.

I know what you mean, although the search on this forum seems to be pretty good. I find it helps if you use the advanced search and select to show only topics rather than posts.

For the record:
C plate Fiesta (mk II) 957cc. Leaked badly. Rusted away.
E plate Renault 5 1.4. Leaked badly through Nissan sunroof (and elsewhere). Funny noise in 5th. Scrapped in 2004 at a scrap yard that used to be here.
R plate 406 LX XUD 1.9 bought October 2004 from here. Then part-exchanged for
current 406, bought September 2005 from here

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Been driving since September 2007, not much car history for me:

1. Renault Clio RT (Mk.1), 3-door, 1.4 litre petrol - reg unknown - had this some years before I passed my test as a car my mates could take me out practising in - was badly abused by previous owners yet still drove well and felt sporty. 80HP engine, 850KG weight. Failed MOT on brakes, had a cracked bearing in the gearbox, uneconomical to revive, sold to someone who said he'd fix it up for his wife, but it was scrapped very shortly afterwards. Was very impressed with how much abuse and neglect the Clio could take and still work, and so that was what I decided I was going to have as a first car.

2. Renault Clio "Panache" (Mk.1), 1996 P-reg 5-door, 1.2 litre petrol - P923 WGP - first car I bought after passing my test. Weedy engine (60 HP) and a slightly heavier car (855KG) than the older model - really wasn't up to the job of driving up North to see my folks, so I part-ex'd it the following year as money towards the next car. Cheap to insure, cheap to run, utterly reliable - this car never let me down the whole time I owned it. I checked up on the reg about 6 months ago and it was still registered and insured, but checked again just now and DVLA don't show it any more, so I guess it's gone.

3. Peugeot 406 LX, 1999 V-reg D9 saloon, 1.8 litre petrol - V822 FSU - first proper car - bought in 2008, had less than 30,000 miles on the clock. I owned this one for two full years, loved it to bits. Was out test-driving the Coupe when some arse in a van smacked into the side of the saloon, denting and scraping all the paintwork down the driver's side, then f*cked off without leaving insurance details; was mortified when I got back to the car to find her in the condition she was in. Couldn't afford to fix her up, couldn't sell her in the condition she was in. Gutted to have had to send her to the scrapper

4. Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2002 02-reg, 2.2 litre petrol - current car, love it to bits, fun to drive, a real head-turner, and the least-French car I've ever owned  Whatever eventually replaces this has some seriously big shoes to fill.
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.
