406 Newbie needs advice!

Post by Adam Lewis »

Merry Xmas Everyone

I've got a prob with my 406 1.8 Rapier

Bought it last week, 54,000 on the clock, V reg for £1500 its in great nick!

Been driving really nice - and Ive been well impressed -until last night and this morning when its the handling / ride has gone all lumpy and the steering has become less sharp / precise.

It seems to pick up every single little bump on the road and whilst it aint crashing on the bump the supsension just seems twitchy!

Im thinkin it could be the tyres - anyone else think of any other reason it would have gone like this literally overnight?.

One other question anyone know of any good independent Pug mechanics - I want the oil cvhanged, and new cambelt!

Cheers All

check the tyre pressures first, and the pas fluid level thats all i can suggest at the moment,

with regards to the timing belt, i would change the water pump at the same time, it wont cost that much extra and will save having the timing belt off at a later date when it fails

Hi and thanks for your coments and advice so far.

Had all the tyres changed (they needed to be changed anyway) but alas this hasn't really solved the problem. Its perhaps a little smoother but nothing has dramtically changed.

I'll check the P.A.S levels etc...but growing more and more unhappy as time goes on, as the car is driving like my old 180,000 mile Saab 9000! I didnt expect that from a seven year old car.

Tracking rods must be the next thing I suppose, but just wary now of throwing too much money at it...anyone else got any suggestions?

Cheers
