It needs buffing up

Post by scotty73 »

To save me £300

Went and ordered a new kitchen yesterday mine is falling apart so i gave in and actually went shopping with her in doors, before going we stopped off to look at floor tiles and glad we did we had an awesome deal and not even the guy who works there could believe it so well chuffed with that.

Only problem is they're a gloss tile and my existing wall tiles are more matt than gloss if you get what i mean? thing is we both want to keep them because not even the expensive ones in gloss style are as nice as the ones we have now and tops tiles still sell them if i need more at something like 20p each.

What i need is a way to gloss them up, my mate says hair laquor (sp) it acts as a unibond then you coat it with clear varnish... At 20p each theres room to experiment and was wondering if any of you have any ideas... Car paint laquor is another idea of mine but have no idea how the stuff would work on tiles.
Thing is i could go and spend £300 on new shiny tiles and rip the tiles out we like (more money more effort and the tiles aren't as nice)

Given how hard ceramics are, I'd guess a polisher wouldn't do much

I may have the solution, i sprayed hair spray on two rows of tiles that may have to come off once my cooker hood goes on so no biggie if it don't work... gave the hair spray a minute then brushed clear varnish over it... the result is nice and shinny at the moment but it's not dry yet so will let you know.

Not sure how good this pic will look on here but the tiles to the right have been done, the left obviously not

Nahh the pic don't do it justice but you can make out some difference it's much better up close. asda hair spray 39p £1 for a small tin of varnish and job done should save me a packet on tiles her indoors didn't really like.

Go the whole way and re-attach them with blue tac, (then she can take them to the hairdresser's with her). :cheesy:

Can I spot a school-boy tiling co-ordination error above?

Placing the tiles in a regimented colour-colour format is frowned upon in the tiling community :frown: rather the colour variations should be randomly placed, let 'free' as it were, hell even be brave and put two of the same colour together on the same stretch

I think you should change the wall tiles to the popular 'brick' style with a gloss finish to compliment the floor.

Take note, if you will, of the tiling adorning the walls of Welly Towers, of course I did not place these things upon the wall myself, no, I simply chose a pattern and instructed a man to do it for me

That technique is known as "paste the wall with tile adhesive and throw tiles at it" AKA hope for the best

I do like the idea of jumbled up tiling mind you there's less to cock up, plus i like to be different... Just a shame women don't see it that way.
