A friend of mine, Simon, has just had Sky installed in his very rural house that has never had a landline phone. I've asked him how he did it and he said it's easy, just tell them if you want my custom, then make it work with no landline. After a few phone calls, they did just that.
It seems the attitude you need to take is if you want my money, make it work with no landline or otherwise poke it. You are the customer and they are lucky to get your money.

Now I might be talking bullshit here, but....

My understanding has always been that the phoneline is only ever used for your Sky box to dial out, to use such things as the piss poor "interactive" features on there, some games, shopping, email etc. These calls are usually chargeable (maybe "premium") so it's another income stream for them. Your box never "receives" an incoming call.

When they send a signal to your box to change something, update something, activate your porn package :supafrisk: ect, that comes in via the satellite signal.

They don't like to let you have a box that isn't connected to a phone line in case they miss out on the 23p that the call generates during the 5 seconds when you're shouting "f*ck it's dialling, quick backup, BACKUP!!!!", but in reality the box will function perfectly well without the phone line.

Actually, my Sky box is now connected to my broadband, so there's no reason at all why it should be connected to a phone line.... yeah, I'm off to unplug the phone line right now!! :x

Hope that helps

A mate of mine had sky years ago with no landline so it can be done, when i've changed my package i just say yes it's connected to the phone line (even though it hasn't been for years) and they've done what they wanted to do no problems at all.

On the other hand a mate of mine leaves his sky plus box in his caravan but every few months he gets a letter saying to connect it to your phone or we'll disconnect your package... So how do they know it's not in the house?

F*ck sky anyway they're way behind on all the good tv thats what t'internet is for.

I'm talking American tv mainly, some Ausie tv is awesome (no not neighbours and home and away) ... Even the Canadians do some good stuff

I can count on one hand the brit tv i watch at the moment... Shameless, Red dwarf, wheeler dealers and new tricks... See one hand i have a finger or thumb left. ... Shouldn't laugh though brit tv is pants and we pay a licence fee before sky for the privilage.

But sky is so much money. Lots of people I know pay over £400 per year for it. All to make Murdoch and his family rich, well they don't need my money.

But, as I said, my mate Simon has just had it installed having never had a landline phone. So there has to be a way of doing it. I would just say to them no landline, so come up with a solution, or i'm off.

Yeah iagree ,Sky is expensive,

But Theyve all been Moaning for it, so they can pitch in with the Bill,

ive orderd Broadband too, 7.50 amonth on a download what you want basis, and you get a password for Cloud, what ever that is :?

got to wait up to 3 weeks for sky to take over the Bt line,
the line rental seems to be the expensive bit, theres no getting away from bt is there :(

I aint paid bt a penny in 5 years for line rental, i pay my provider and they must pay bt surely a company as big as sky can sort it with bt so you only have one bill?

As for the American tv being just as bad i don't bother with Dallas but there are some cracking programmes on at the moment and months before they hit our tv... I've had sky for years sports, movies the lot but it's silly money if it wern't for the kids tv i'd jack it in altogether.

There is a way of getting it without paying sky mind you. :supafrisk:

If you don't take it up they'll ask for the box back trust me, the ones on ebay are from people who've updraded or no longer need the box... At one point i had one in the caravan and 3 in the house thats without the sky plus box downstairs they're pretty easy to comebye.

What are they charging for the line rental? to me if you don't use a landline you don't pay it.
