DEALERS WHEELERS show

Post by Ares »

I must say i love this show very much.
Dont know how many of you have seen it but from the first episode,im lock on it.
So much stuff can be learned from Edd the mechanic and Mike is funny.

I find it incredible how cheap cars are in the UK,thats crazy.
Was watching the other day, they were working on some BMW M5,bought it really cheap.
In my country, cars like those are priced in gold, people would rather see it rust away than sold it in some cases.

I have complained bitterly about the prices of cars in Croatia many times on this board, we will see what happens to the prices next year I guess.

UK cars are right-hand drive; nowhere else in Europe is RHD. This keeps UK car values low as very few people in LHD countries want RHD cars.

Wheeler Dealers is awesome; I really loved the Fiat Dino Coupe (powered by a 2.4l Ferrari V6) and the Jensen Interceptor MkIII (powered by a 7 litre Chevy V8 which was seemingly designed to turn vast quantities of petrol into noise, rather than speed)
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.

Where the steering wheel is doesn't actually make a whole lot of difference, also cars are much cheaper in many other parts of Europe even with the wheel on the right (left) side. The main problems are the size of the market, which is tiny here by comparison, and that the government makes it needlessly overcomplicated and expensive to import cars into Croatia (and impossible for cars over 7 years). They even start with a much higher price, sometimes it's almost double what they cost there. When I was looking a couple of years back a two year old Subaru Forrester was still more expensive than a new one in the UK.

Errr, I've never seen Wheeler Dealers, I guess this must be on national television which is generally drek.

It's on the Discovery channel, and is repeated a lot on the Discovery Turbo channel. You'll likely also find them on YouTube; I think they have an official channel now.

It's TV that's worth watching, for a change.

Mike Brewer finds and buys cars that are in a bit of a state, and (sometimes) shows you what you should look for when buying a used car, the advice being geared towards buying cars to fix up. I find Mike can be a bit annoying at times though.

Edd China is a very (very!) tall man, and fixes the cars up, showing you top tips on how to do it. Once he's done, you get a breakdown on the purchase price, parts prices, service costs (i.e. paint shop costs, alloy wheel refurb costs, windscreen fitters' costs), and a total on how much they spent.

Mike then sells the cars on, and you're told how much of a profit they made on that car.

A lot of people look at the program and say "there's no way you could have made a profit; what about the garage/labour fees? They're never included!" but they're missing the point - the show is supposed to teach you to do this stuff yourself.

Me and my Lad love watching WD if there's nothing else on (which is mostly).

Check out this bit where he bids the German guy on the Merc. Mike used to be a car dealer I believe and is very good and doing the negociating.

I'm on the fence with the show since i watched an episode a while back about a Morgan they did,on that particular episode they bought a dark green Morgan and did it up,on the inspection of the underside of the car Edd found some welding to the chassis which was in fact a couple of what looked like angle iron pieces welded to it to which he said a right bodge of a repair had been done by someone.I mentioned the program to a mate of mine runs his own garage and looks after quite a few Morgans and other specialist marques,he knew the car and had looked after it for a customer for many years and it was him that had infact done the welding,it was not a bodge and the repair was to MOT standards and he had in fact said to the owner it needed a new chassis on previous occasions but he was unwilling to pay to have it replaced but just wanted the car MOT'd,my mate found Edds remarks somewhat slanderous as he runs a proffesional garage and it could damage his reputation to people who own the other Morgans he looks after as he never "bodges" any repairs, also Edd said the car had obviously spent a lot of time living by the seaside to be that rotten but in fact the car had rarely been out of Oxxfordshire.Don't get me wrong i enjoy the show for what it is but now take anything they say with a pinch of salt. :|

Dont mind at all, other peoples opinion is good to hear any time.

The situation in Croatia is crazy, really, what prices do people put on car, hillarious.
I believe that situation will turn for better when all customs are moved by entering the EU.
Paper work concerning importing car is also hillarious, you have to be an expert to import something.

But wheelers dealers are so much fun to watch,i love peugeots, but that BMW M5 he bought for that funny money is crazy, here it would cost at least 5 times more.
Just now i watched how they done Mini, the car was really rust, but Edd managed to sort it out.
I have learned a couple of things how to,and picked up a few english phrases :cheesy: ...for example,if somebody offers me funny money for car,i would call him cheesy haha.
Imagine if they do a peugeot 406...they have done only 1 peugeot ...205 GTI

I don't think I'll be filling my hard drive with it yet, I'll watch a couple of programs later but at the moment they sound like they have a huge pile of sawdust and buy Isopon by the kilo :frown:

Edd has used filler to repair dings, but has also used other methods in more recent episodes. They repaired a Ferrari 308 GT4 Dino in one episode, and used a special bodyshop process to pull out a dent. The process requires no filler, and was really clever to see.

Their older episodes had some real rust-buckets, and really low budgets (buy and fix up a car for less than a grand) but some of their more recent episodes have much bigger budgets.

They always do a good job fixing up the cars, whether they start off as scruffy unloved examples that just need a little TLC, or complete shitter rust-buckets that are just one step away from the scrap yard.

Sawdust not included.

Yes some of repairs are not showned, like todays Mini, there was large hole in the seat but they didnt show, must be a tight time frame.

But the show is great,i feel its the closest show to normal people, they find some old cheap car and repair it,showing us how to do it.
Not like those West Coast Customs where they build Lincolns with 5 million speakers in it and wheels size of a church :cheesy:

It was funny tho when they said that DeLorea car had an engine built from Peugeot-Volvo-Renault PRV-engine
