Sky plus question

Post by scotty73 »

Does anyone have one of these in their house?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DOUBLE-WALL-T ... 337dc98f3e

My sky plus cable comes straight through the wall to the sky box but the stupid twat who installed it just drilled a hole straight through the wall... Ok that's how it's done but he didn't come in by the top of a skirting he came in half way up the wall 3" above my window sill so to wallpaper around it i have to make a 3" straight cut in the paper to the cable which always looks scruffy to my but everyone else don't notice... So I'm thinking of making it look smarter with a box.

After all that here's the question  Does introducing one of these reduce signal quality? My dad seems to think so but I'm not sure as I've never seen it done. :?

They would have done a decent job but he just drilled the wall and fed it straight to the box = Half arsed job.
Putting my dish up wasn't half arsed though nooo He drills a hole in my wall to secure his ladder  ... Health and safety rules... A bit like shoddy workmanship.

I hate introducing any unnecessary joints into the cable, as you say I always convince myself that they'll reduce the signal strength / quality. That said it shouldn't matter too much with a digital signal, it'll either work or it won't, so if you've got a strong signal to begin with you'll be fine. Personally though, I'd just go for a twin hole tidy.

Like Dai says, with digital it's either a 1 or a 0, not much in between so it shouldn't effect signal at all really!
Just make sure it's terminated well (if you need a hand with that let me know) and get a decent cable between the face plate and the sky box.

I'm not sure you should say that sort of thing to scotty, he's rapidly taking over from Puggy here in the smutty corner :)

That's all well and good and quite a tidy idea but i have to paper around it which means i have to cut to it then try and hide the cut so the idea was to have a box where i can disconnect the sky from the face plate, paper round it and re-connect to the plate.

So i decided to go for the tried and trusted method that Mr Bailes uses every day in his line of work.... Yep trunking.

Here's the offending article, why he didn't drill closer to the window is anyone's guess...Unless of course he planned to instal a box... which he didn't.

Welly i have a hell of a long way to go before i can scale Puggy's dizzy heights of perverseness.

Have you noticed how much warmer your house is? That's a new one on me, shoddy or what.

What pisses me off with ours is he left the old sky cable in (which was neatly drilled right by the window) why didn't he just make that hole big enough for the sky+ cable? :?

Nah no extra warm noticed yet,
ithink he may of broke the brick because his drill bit wasnt good enough to go the whole way through,
as'pose thats what you get for buying drill bits from the quid shop, wouidnt mind tho the kint had a half decent Makita drill but couidnt be harsed buying a decent drill bit,
