Women drivers

Post by Captain Jack »

I am sorry for starting a sexist thread but I can keep quiet no longer.

Why is it that almost every time someone on the road does something annoying/stupid (fog lights on in clear weather, no lights at all in foggy conditions, getting in the way, pulling out of a tight junking at the last minute, slow driving/making decisions/breathing - the list goes on), in 90% of the time, it will be a woman driver. I try not to say out loud "bloody women drivers" with my other half in the car but I can guess with a good degree of accuracy that it will be a fairer sex driving the car if they do something stupid.

However, the thing that pisses me off the most from them is a complete lack of courtesy on the roads. They will rarely stop if there is a row of cars parked on their side of the road and will almost never say "thanks" with a hand wave. Really, they are the rudest drivers of all, especially if they are driving some posh school run bus (pointless Q5's/X1's etc.) where they tend to ignore everything around them but themselves.

And how was your day?

Of course not. A lady friend of mine is a very good driver, in fact. But I was just saying that whenever someone does something stupid on the road, the chances of it being a female driver is quite high.

No doubt - and don't get me started on older drivers/40mph brigade.

when im driving ijust look at all car drivers as the same
idont know them so ikeep in mind there idiots, idont do the school runs anymore, safer just to walk them there,

Most days iavoid the main roads and just cut through the country lanes, because of all the clowns on the roads,

Theres less plod on the roads now, iguess thats why theres more of em, Mobile phones, no seat belts, 9kids in a 5 seater car etc
isee it all but what can you do,

I think I'm quite good at driving defensively and never get frustrated by other drivers, I tend to be able to spot them a mile off and drive accordingly (keep out the way) of course it doesn't help if someone wants to ruin your day and leap out at you but generally I can spot a nuisance and keep an eye on them.

It doesn't hurt to assume the car in front is going to do something silly, less of a surprise for you when they do :|

My girlfriends probably a better driver than me. I think any girl with half an ounce of mechanical sympathy is a pretty good driver.

It's the women who couldn't care less who are the bad ones.
Take my Mum for instance. She hit her rear tyre in such a way that she bent the stub axle. She then drove around with the wheel having severe toe in so bad that the outside edge of said rear wheel was bald perfectly on half of it! In the end I had to get my Dad to take it and get it fixed as it was a serious danger.
My Mum gets in a car as regardless of how it drives, what lights are on, what noises it's making etc as long as it moves it works as far as shes concerned.

If I got in power I would make people learning to drive have a test about cars. They should have the minimum understanding of how a car should work. They would have to know how to check oil, how to replace bulbs, how to rear tyre wear and work out if the suspension needs attention etc.
Then make them do a simple test. For example questions such as...

A fast indicator could be down to...
a) The car developing too much electricity
b) Bulb failure or a fault with the indicators
c) To remind you that you are towing a trailer
d) You have pressed down on the indicator stalk too hard

Wear on the outer edge of a front tyre could be down to...
a) Tracking and Wheel Alignment
b) Car needs a service
c) Tyre has too much pressure
d) Lots of overtaking

Anyone driving a car should have a basic understanding of how things work and how to diagnose a fault. It absolutely pisses me off that people can get behind 3.5tonnes of metal after sitting in a fiesta for 15 hours and have no idea how it actually moves.

I also think basics such as changing a wheel should be covered in the driving test, you should have to demonstrate this in front of the examiner.

And I also think tyre cameras like they have just implemented in Germany are an awesome idea! I'm sick of seeing bald tyres, why don't people understand when they should be replaced?
There should be cameras dotted around the country. If you have a bald tyre you automatically get a £500 fine and 3 points! That would soon stop people driving with bald tyres!
You wouldn't make it so as soon as you his 1.6mm you get a ticket. You'd set it at 1mm.

I also think 6 month inspections should be implemented and the MOT made far stricter. Get rid of HID's, cut springs etc etc.
I'd also make the TAX and MOT one thing.

/Rant over.

Sam, we have enough cameras in this nanny state already, thankyouverymuch :|

Agree that the driving tests should be more rigorous and basic mechanical knowledge test but it doesn't help people who are physically unable.

Difference is where speed cameras are useless and for no good reason other than to make money. Tyre cameras would massively increase the safety of our roads!

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/nissan/350 ... s-revealed

I had two Dunlop Sport Maxx RT's on the back of my car at 2mm.
A few weeks ago (Actually I think I made a thread about it?) I got caught on some water coming down a hill on the motorway. Doing about 40-50mph I managed to loose my rear end quite servery. If it wasn't for ESP I would have spun completely. Now I personally feel if I'd had a tyre above 3mm I wouldn't have had that problem in the first place. I also feel if my tyre had any less tread than it did they not even ESP could have sorted me out.

I always wondered ho anyone could drive a car without a basic understanding of what all the levers, pedals etc. were actually doing. Unfortunately a lot of modern cars are designed so that you can't do many basic repairs yourself. Even down to changing a bulb...

Per tyre :supafrisk:

Kind of as it is here, you have to pay part of the tax when you have your MOT and then the remainder follows shortly afterwards by post. And you can't register a car unless you have 12 months insurance, plus if a vehicle's unregistered you have to hand the numberplates back - this makes unregistered/uninsured cars quite obvious

There seems to be far more male drivers than females here so I don't really watch out for who's driving. Around here the ones to watch for are Karlovac plates and anything German (worst of all are Mercedes, then BMW, Audi, VW, Škoda, Ford drivers aren't so bad but their cars are more likely to be death traps). Also Bosnian plates can be a bad sign, as can German (no matter which make of car they're driving). Slovenians are usually just lost.

For example, the car that pulled out on me on my way home this evening was...... an Audi. With Karlovac plates.

My missus is a safe and capable driver but she forgets simple things like what gear she's in and also leaving the wipers on when there's no need. This must be the same part of the female brain that over-rides the need to pull into a Petrol Station, even though the warning light is flashing, and just sail straight by without a care in the world

I often take this a step further, giving them an exageratedly wide berth, at which point Mrs Doggy will shake her head and pronounce, "Typical Bloody Female".

Used to have the kids in absolute hysterics.

TBH my biggest critcism of women drivers is their near total lack of peripheral vision or any interest in anything that's not directly in their line of sight.
