I have drempt and drempt about doing this!
I love general day to day cars with four wheel drive! It angers me that there aren't more available!
Unfortunately the gear ratios would be an arse and I imagine it would be a pig to drive with a top speed of ~90mph and poor fuel economy.
Maybe you could get some custom made diffs to alter the ratios?
We can't do this to the 406, reason being is that the 405 uses a rear torsion beam. What ever one wheel does the other does. It has one metal tube instead of springs. When the suspension compresses it 'twists' to torsion bar. It's an okay system but compared to the independent setup we have on our 406's, it's a bit like running around with your shoes tied together.
If I was to do this conversion I think a V6 would be in order

Seriously for a minute, a great effort but I can't see it being easy to live with, even when they were fairly new they weren't that strong.
They really did the full monty on that model thenSTALLED wrote:The Mi16x4 has one sphere (ala Citroen BX) to ensure that the rear differential maintains clearance off the body - a very tricky active self levelling suspension system!
Probably - it was marginally slower than the FWD version but offered more grip. Basically a product which answered a question to which nobody asked in the first place...Welly wrote:They really did the full monty on that model thenSTALLED wrote:The Mi16x4 has one sphere (ala Citroen BX) to ensure that the rear differential maintains clearance off the body - a very tricky active self levelling suspension system!probably one of those cars that costs more to manufacture than it's price tag suggests.
Popped in and had a look at that tonight!FarmerPug wrote:A variation on the theme, a 4x4 5 series:
