Putting wax on a car in winter is it worth it?

With all the salt on the roads the pug is looking dull, the salt seems to fading the paint.

is Auto glym high definition wax anygood ive just scrounged 4 tubs of the stuff or is the out better out there that will last,
the paint on the pug seems crap not much protection from the bad weather, just thought id get a few coats of wax on it
to stop the paint fading

There is a difference between a polish and a wax.

A polish has abrasives and rubs away the paint. You get different grades of abrasives much like sand paper! You start off with the lowest abrasive polish you can get away with for your defects. You don't want to be taking more paint off than necessary. You then work your way down so you are eventually using an extremely fine abrasive which will give you a perfect finish.

Then you have a Glaze. This is much like a polish but contains oils and fillers to help fill any swirls and gloss up your paint. You get dry glazes and oily glazes.

Then a Wax or Sealant. This gives you your protection. A wax will sit on almost anything! A sealant is a little more picky and won't sit on an oily glaze but are generally more durable.
A wax will give you a warm glossy finish. A sealant has sharper and crisper reflections.

AG HD wax is actually half decent.

I would prep the car first.
Personally I would wash it, clay it, give it a polish with Autoglyms Super Resin polish (It's an all in one that has a slight abrasive and a large amount of fillers which will cleanse the paint and make it glossy and leave a perfect finish for the HD wax) then stick the HD wax on.

If you don't prep it then waxing is a waste of time!

the Auto glym high definition wax turned out to be good stuff
Iwill be using that again, the paint is like Glass,

only trouble was now its shined up it showed all the trolley dents, only minor ones but the stuck out like a sore phumb,
So ive been rolling them out for an our or so, only got one left to get out now and the pannels are straight,
