About 6-8 grand is generally in the right mark.
The majority of that will be copper and materials.

Why don't you do it in stages?

Get someone in to come and change the consumer unit, get one fitted with an RCD which will make like a million times safer! (Providing everything is earthed). While they're doing the consumer unit get all the bonding conductors changed.

Then maybe do the upstairs lighting. Then the upstairs power, then the downstairs lighting, then the downstairs power etc etc.

Just do it phase at a time?

Iwouid have it done like that,
but the wife and kids are chronic asthma suffer 'ers so its not an option,

for that reason iwouid have to move them down south for a few weeks to the mother n laws holiday -let house
its empty through the winter so its not aproblem,

so that way ican rip into everything im no good with electrics but everything else plastering etc iwill be doing to save a few quid,

Perhaps you could break that down a little, maybe Lozz wouldn't be saving a whole lot by doing all his own channelling and plastering, or is that estimate for cheating and using conduit?
