Is it time to diversify 406oc?

Post by Bailes1992 »

Was thinking about this today. 406's are running out and sooner rather than later most of our members would have dissapeered to other marques :supafrisk:

Maybe it would be worth having a little rearrangment of the forum, maybe a new name, new URL etc. Make it more 407, 508, C5 etc friendly.

The only issue I could see is that maybe you would loose the close knit community you find on this forum.

Anyone else share my views on this?
Or have any other ideas?

I don't think all 406s are going to get scrapped any time soon, there are still 1996 cars floating about so that gives them at least another 8 year. Owners will come and owners will go but there'll be a need for this site for quite a few years to come, although it would be sad for it to just peter out, like the BX 16 valve club has. I dunno, maybe "owner's club" is a bit of a misnomer now, maybe it just needs titles changing a bit, something like "for 406s owners, past, present and future".

I think 406's will still be around for a good while, we've all had/got one so should be able to help others through (sometimes bitter) experience. Take me for example; I had just about everything go wrong with my HDi so can offer advice if I can spot the same symptoms with other posters on here. If I save them a few quid or help somehow then I'm happy to.

Other than that I think mostly now I pop on here for the social banter :)

One thing I would like to see is a 'Lounge' area for general waffling/moaning about life rather than clog the forum. We have a 'General' section but that's a bit too 'general' could be to do with cars, money, anything :?

Its a good idea, has some strong points, but i dont think we will dissapear, there is always some new 406 member.
Maybe we can open some subsection for other cars, french perhaps, since they are most similar to 406.

It is what it is, and what it is is very good.

There are other forums for other cars. You're not interested in 407s and I'm not interested in Mondeos, but we are both interested in 406s, and that's why we're both here.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Some good points there RwB

but isee that as abit unfair,
Bailes is most probably More comfier here than crossing over to another forum,

so let him get on with his Mondeo chat,

if someones not interested in a paticualar car and just wants to keep on subject of 406 then fair doo's its easy enough to click off the page,

as for Making changes to the forum,. fair enough but, think of the Admin they might not have the time for all that,
the forum runs well,

the more you add to a forum the slower it will run, Ive already noticed at times its hard or takes awhile to get on here,
or is it my pc thats Forked :?

I don't think rebranding is a good idea at all, there are already several generic French Car forums for example, and that's just not us. I think it speaks volumes that so many members who don't have 406s any more are still here, you just don't see that on other forums. The member base on here reflects the type of car that the 406 is, (mostly) sensible and (mostly) mature, which is why we all get on so well, even Sam was born into his fifties . There's a danger if it gets too generic that we may attract idiots

That said I think it may be a plan to update our info to identify the fact that we are a bit diversified and may be of use to owners of vehicles other than 406s.

I also think a bit of minor re-structuring might be in order, I like the idea of having a section for general motoring and then another "Lounge" section for all the other stuff. Perhaps a section for other vehicles too so that we keep the non-406 related discussions away from the 406 stuff?

The fact that we aren't one of those forums with pages of rules, Admins on a power trip and members who just try to cause an argument every day is what makes 406oc so great 8)

I know. I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek to illustrate the point.

I enjoy and value Sam's contributions to the forum -- Mondeo and all -- and I'm glad that he's still around.

I don't think a sticker's going to help, what you need is some sort of lozenge for a lump in your throat :?
