Headlight upgrade

Post by scotty73 »

I know this one has been done before but thought I'd lob it back in here a bit quick for some quick advice.

i need to go to my lmf today for a half beam bulb but was thinking while in there to upgrade the bulbs so i can see going over the mountain road to a party tonight and everyone else gets blinded
Not even sure what bulbs are in there to be honest but they don't seem the best in the dark... Any suggestions?

Stay away from HID kits and bulbs with blue-tinted glass. Aftermarket HID kits blind everyone else on the road and cause massive glare, blue-tinted bulbs have less total light output than normal bulbs despite looking "brighter" because of the whiter light.

You want Philips Xtreme Vision bulbs or similar, with clear glass and higher light output than standard bulbs. Stay away from anything that promises whiter light or promises that your car will look like it has HIDs.

Be aware that bulbs with higher outputs generally burn out faster than standard bulbs. Always keep a set of spares in the car.

Totally agree with KosmoNaut and jonsowman.

From viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19620 :

Had them in previously (and they both blew last night when I turned them on  )

I've tried quite a few different bulbs over the years, as it went through a phase of eating them quite regularly. I've been really happy with these.

Be wary that Osram Nightbreakers have blue tint on the glass as well. They used to be untinted, but they've changed them for the worse, in order to sell to yobbos and Barry boys.

I'd go for the Philips Xtreme Vision bulbs.

It's all relative, though. I drove with Osram extended life bulbs in my old car and had plenty of light, despite them theoretically being less bright than standard bulbs.

The glass does have the blue tint but they are honestly not blue at all, don't worry.
