Having a breakdown

Post by scotty73 »

 That happened a long time ago.

Serious now then it's car insurance renewal time the first joke to test our water was the renewal £648.58 full comp with full breakdown for both of us, the wifey got that down to £547.15.

Now that's with any direct debit add ons but we are thinking of paying it in full so i'm thinking of trying to save money on the breakdown cover so my question is are any of you with any of the lesser know companies than say AA or RAC and what are you saving and how are you getting on with them?

Typing this i just remembered i phoned an insurance company last year recommended on here but i can't remember the name.

Adrian something?

Watch for the Breakdown Cover added to insurance policies; I don't believe you get the same level of cover as you could yourself i.e. you might not get the Home Start or the 'Relay' Home etc.

I've got 2 x Cars and the House insured with Sainsbury's (Wifey works for them) and we get ubber Nectar Points now but that only helps if you shop at Sainsbury's (we do cos we get staff discount). Anyway the Sainsbury's Insurance prices are good at the moment.

I looked into going for one of these small independents but research told me that they're less than satisfactory when you make a claim and can get shirty with you about proving your NCB within the allotted time - almost as if they know you will struggle to get the documents in time and they're sat their ready to hit you with an admin fee or even cancel the policy (with another fee).

I like the big companies personally.

Breakdown-wise I believe you can do worse than joining Green Flag? I'm with AA but was a bit pissed off when they didn't answer the phone when my Oil Diaphragm spewed it that time (but it was -6 deg C, and 06:15am).

Welly the AA is quite expensive too if you want to cover two people and your worry about the smaller companies is my concern too.

Speaking of the AA, my bro forwarded this email he got from them earlier:
Taste buds at the ready?

You're personally invited to join us for a most thrilling, truly delicious six-course taster menu, at the five-AA Rosette-awarded Hibiscus restaurant, London.

Created and personally introduced by top chef Claude Bosi, you'll enjoy an evening of top-notch contemporary cooking, which features a sublime combination of textures and flavours.

This gourmet event takes place on Wednesday 24 April and is exclusively reserved for AA Rewards members. Tickets cost just £95 per person and this includes a signed menu and goody bag to take away. Additionally we're offering accompanying wines for just £70pp.

Places are limited, so to avoid disappointing your taste buds, call 020 7629 2999 to book your place today.

The AA Rewards Team
95 quid for a fecking taster? 70 quid for a couple of glasses of wine? Wtf?

I certainly wouldn't go with them, they obviously expect members to be rolling in it

we ended up staying with Admiral for insurance and breakdown... Reason? started off £648.58 then with some haggling the wife got it down to £547.15.

then when they phoned back at 6pm ish:roll: has agreed  the wife said.
Wait for this it's good for the moneys no option people.

Q:How much if i was to pay on my card?

A: Oh you'll get an extra 10% off and won't pay the direct debit fee so £427.

0% credit card and pay them the £45 per month we're used to paying out from last years insurance then please.

I don't see Highlander about so i'll say it... What a bunch of thieving bastards.
