Keep an eye on your cat !

Post by grasmere59 »

My neighbour who bought my old 110 Rapier off me had to change his Catalytic converter as the flexi went,he fitted an aftermarket one and was going to bin the old original PSA one,i said let me ebay it as it might be worth something, well it sold for over £200 as scrap!.I was having a chat with a mate of mine from the next village from me and he said a chap opposite him had had the cat cut off and stolen from his Citroen Picasso hdi 2 nights ago and the police had said it's a country wide problem at the moment and PSA cars are being especially picked on as there cats are worth a lot of money as I found out when I ebayed my neighbours old one.Just be vigilant if your 406 has the original cat still fitted as the lowlife's are out there at the moment looking to nick it.

Apparently they go on a container to some dubious factories in China where they pay children to strip the precious metals; Platinum, Palladium and Rhodium I think. As far as I know it is very dangerous to separate these metals and lots of special expensive equipment and control measures need to be in place - that's why it is done 'on the cheap' in the back end of nowhere. If this happened in the UK there'd be a public outcry but since it's in someone else's back yard then hey, why should it bother us?

The only reason I can think the HDi catalysts are sort after is that they might be the more expensive Platinum ones and may be quite large too?

The one I sold for my neighbour had Wimetal K199 stamped on it.I think the higher the number the more they are worth.

Had mine nicked, in Cheltenham, March last year whilst car was on the drive. Replaced it with a straight bit of pipe, no problems since.
If they are going for that much I'd cut it off myself if I still had one and sell it, cost to replace with straight pipe and 2 clamps, less than a tenner so nice tidy profit.

I looked at this previously.....http://catsman.co.uk/scrap-catalytic-converters-prices

My local scrap metal place have a price list for scrap cats, last time I looked they seemed pretty good.

My sister had the cat and dpf stolen from their Iveco van....the cost to replace it was £1,200

I've been offered a good few quid for cats by our traveller/gypsy friends before now.

OEM cats are by far the most valuable.

Well I got £205 for the genuine K199 WIMETAL 406 cat I sold on ebay and the chap was pleased with the purchase so god only knows what it's real worth was,it was only good for scrap as I had chopped off the flexi and the other end pipe. :D
