With recent windscreen troubles I've been having misting issues.
On my investigation found the pollen filter absolutely black with dirt, dust and grime..
We cleaned it out a couple of weeks ago, it was full of leaves and dirt.
This is the old filter:
In comparison:
Noticed the seal was quite old and perished.. it was hard in places. To make it seal nicely I bought some multi purpose silicone to seal it..

Sonia,
That old filter might have been a charcoal one they are better at keeping the bug's etc: at bay. They look dirty when you take them out the box
You should idealy change you filter yearly as bacteria can grow in there & you wouldn't want your little one's breathing them in .

Yep that filter is a carbon filter and not actually dirty. The carbon gives you greater filtration and removes smells and toxins from the air.

Sonia, to me it looks like a dirty filter too - but what do I know..
If it makes you feel better, when I changed my cabin filter, it said Peugeot on it and has a 2004 date next to it....!!
That's probably why my ex-taxi smelled of curry, beer and sick - no fresh air was getting in for years......

Oh my goodness!
In fairness I know all the dirt and leaves we fished out of there, we tapped it on some metal railings and loads of stuff just came lose from it, so was definitely time for a new filter what ever..
I had photos somewhere of the full extent of the sh*t that came out from there.........
*Edit* ADDED: Notice the railings are covered, as is the floor...........
I was under the illusion it was just dirty because when it was whacked on the metal railings we saw some white specs..
Sonia,
The charcoal filters do have a motelled apperance
