A 406 office Chair, quite possibly the most comfortable office chair ever :cheesy:

Neat 8)

but a leather one, with armrests, would really be something.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

It would be a bit of work getting 2 armrests on a 406 seat they only have them on the middle, an old smiley transit is one of the few seats i can think of with double armrests.

Leather wouldnt be a bad idea, but sitting in my executives seats, they are still comfortable but i think the old cloth seats offer more of that squidgey french softness.

There is a bit of an issue with this office chair, its about 2 inches too high, i cant reach the ground or fit my legs under the desk so some tweaking will be required

Arm rest i'm 50/50 on anyway tbh because i have no use for the right hand one has it slides under the desk with mouse in right hand and the left one would get in the way.

Lets just say it would hardly ever be used to rest my arm on.

That is excellent! :cheesy: I'm kind of regretting having to give my old interior away now (but it did go to a good home  )

I'm not sure on leather, when I look at office chairs the only ones that are any good for my back are the leather-ette ones and I know I'd sweat like a pig when I sit in it for any length of time. I know it's not real leather but, with no air con going it the house, I reckon the effect would be much the same.

Btw how stable is it? Is it not a little top-heavy?

Won't you be having a couple of redundant front seats to experiment with soon Sonia? :cheesy:

Its spot on, it feels more balanced than it did with the old top on it, the metal base the seat bolts to is quite heavy which moves the centre of gravity lower, so it doesnt feel unbalanced at all.

The materials needed are quite minimal, a solid bar of metal, this was just an old bit of angle iron, cleaned off the rust with a flap disk on the angle grinder, cut 2 pieces the length of the original seat runners, and cut another 2 pieces to the width between the bolts, welded it together square with a stick welder, drilled out the holes on a pillar drill, bolted the frame onto where the old seat base went, and onto the top of the frame goes the chair.

You can beat the gas lift out from the chair ( hammer the underneath ) and find a shorter one to replace it, to make it lower, if you like.

Or simply put your desk on a couple of bricks..... :supafrisk:

Thats what i did with my old desk, had it sitting up on 2 big blocks so i could get the chair in, the problem was it slipped off the block one night and it wasn't too pleasant on my knee.

Here is how much of the strut remains:
Image
I dont think there would be a smaller strut on any desk chairs out there, the main problem is the base of a 406 seat is so much thicker than a regular chair so you have to remove the height from elsewhere
