Road surface 'dressing' rant

Post by Welly »

The Council has just 'dressed' my favorite section of dual carriageway with that 'Wet Tar and Chippings' crap we all know and love. Now this in itself is ok and I understand the process 'seals' the road surface to prevent deeper damage by water and frost etc. and eventually settles down ok.

BUT - the amount of f*cking morons that have been ripping past me and showering my precious paintwork in loose stones has pissed me off this week  what the f*ck is wrong with these people? you can hear the stones smashing up under the car so slow the f*ck down and stop doing it! last night I had to cringe and 'take' a showering of stones as some arse overtook at 70+ I'd have cheerfully pulled him out of his seat and rubbed his face into the f*cking road surface for a closer look at it

And...relax.

It's a sad fact that there's some of us that care and then there's the others.

I guess we just have to accept that if these people either don't own and/or don't care about what they're driving then a goodly proportion of them won't care about your car either. Not much you can do about it, other than try to detour around it until the worst of the fallout has passed.

They're doing the roads around here at the moment but the sods aren't sweeping the roads until a day or so later.

They're going through a phase of that round here.

I don't know who they think they're fooling sticking pebbles to the road. All the bloody holes are still there.

I don't understand why anyone would finish roads like that, but apparently it's cheaper or something. Nevermind what it does to cars, have you tried riding a motorcycle on that crap?

With the 406, I've quietly resigned myself to the mindset that any non-major scratches or dents are to be classified as "patina" and pretty much left alone. I wash it by hand and polish+wax regularly, but everyone and everything suffers wear and tear over their lifetimes, and cars are no exception.

That said, it still boils my blood whenever someone speeds down a chip-sealed road, spraying rocks everywhere, or if someone causes damage through negligence or malice.
