Spiders in wing mirrors

Post by Welly »

Anyone any tips for discouraging or removing spiders from the wing mirrors? BOTH mine have residents and I can see the little buggers run and hide behind the mirror glass when I move in for a 'word' and then every morning there's a new web which seems to extend across to the bodywork or window.

I have a theory about this; spiders always make webs near a light source so as to attract insects at night, they must see a shiny mirror as a 'light'??

I've seen 'spider repellent' sprays in these cheap shops, maybe spray some of that?

Conversely, does anyone have a resident spider which they enjoy? I mean, if you think about it the spider gets to travel around and see all sorts of places :cheesy:

I view them as good luck charms these days - almost every car I've had which had no wing mirror spider has been a complete disaster. Most reliable car I ever owned had two in each mirror.

I've heard the sudden sight of a redback or a funnel web dangling from a rear view mirror causes a lot of accidents...

Oh what a tangled web we weave....

I seem to be singularly unaflicted by reflection-seeking arachnids - want to borrow some cavaliers?

Maybe the spiders aren't strong enough to hold on when you unleash all those torques :cheesy:

Maybe the seat/mirror ecu has a previously undocumented spider squishing algorithm.

Memory seats/mirrors are overrated in my opinion.

It's surprising how far they can travel. And they seem quite happy at 60MPH on the inside corner stuck to the mirror and the plastic.
