possible return to 406's

hi all

i've been out of 406 ownership for nearly 12 months now (driving a mazda 6 petrol)
after buying a complete lemon 110 hdi that lasted 6 weeks i got put off 406's ,even though i know they are essentially as reliable as owt else on the road, and my confidence of buying 2nd hand cars and my own knowledge of what i'm looking at took a bit of a battering,and losing 1100 quid on the hdi aint something i want to be doing again
the hdi was only the 2nd diesel car i have owned, 1st one being a mondeo td, that lasted about 3 weeks so as you can imagine diesels aint my favourite form of powering motor vehicles
not overly happy with the mazda, it does it's job but it's suffering from a bad case of tinworm, due its MOT in november which i will put it through and was planning on getting rid in the spring next year anyway, lots of possible replacements on the list, jag 2.5 v6 x type, octavia vrs, saab 9-3 or 9-5 aero plus more, basically something with a bit of go in it.
so past week i've been lurking on here, and had a hankering for a 406. always fancied the idea of a 2.2 hdi de fapped and re mapped but not many 2.2's about until tonight i come across this:

so what do you think. is the price about right? struck me as being a little on the cheap side? cambelt due soon? general thoughts appreciated.
would be looking at straight swap as a minimum, on my 54 plate mazda with 76k, maybe even a bit a cash my way, unfortunately i'm going on holiday tomorrow for a week and knowing my luck it'll be sold when i get back

In my opinion, that's the most you could ask for a faultless example. Without seeing it, it's really hard to tell how good it is.
There's no short way of explaining what to look for, but you'd want to be happy it didn't need a cambelt, clutch or dmf and to know that everything works.
The FAP, (dpf) and its associated bits and pieces are less of a worry, save that if it's in limp mode, it's difficult to tell if it would otherwise drive OK.
A good one should impress you with effortless performance, smoothness and feel tight and nimble. If you're not surprised by the speed you're doing when you check the dials, something's wrong.

looking at other hdi's in 2.0 form there are more asking for much more money than that with more miles on that's why i suggested its cheap , or the others are overpriced lol
hopefully its still available when.I'm back next weekend and can go and have a look and a drive

I agree with Doggy, the expensive things are the cambelt, clutch and DMF ( Dual Mass Flywheel ), as most cars are - all the little electrical gremlins can normally be sorted with help from the forum.

The car looks nice, good colour and top-spec. It is an older model - possibly higher tax - so maybe try to knock a bit off the price...
